AAA solid spruce top delivers rich, traditional tone

The Ovation Custom Legend AX features a AAA solid spruce top that delivers rich, traditional tone, and Ovation's innovative Scalloped X bracing that lets the top vibrate more freely than traditionally constructed acoustic guitars. The result is exceptional playing comfort and rich, natural acoustic sound - with impressive volume. Sweetwater's performing guitarists love this axe not only for its excellent tone and playing comfort - the gloss-finished AAA top also happens to look amazing under stage lights!

Ovation's Lyrachord Contour Bowl body delivers amazing comfort and projection

The evolution of Ovation's famous Roundback design, the Contour Bowl gives you amazingly robust acoustic response - with the feel of a small-bodied guitar. Fashioned from a glass-microsphere-impregnated Lyrachord composite, and sculpted to fit you like a glove, the lightweight Lyrachord Deep Contour Cutaway body is delightful to hold, whether you're sitting or standing. It may be compact, but Ovation's Contour Bowl body boasts the acoustic projection power, midrange punch, and massive low end of a traditional jumbo-style acoustic guitar.

OP-Pro Studio electronics: state-of-the-art audio; guitarist-friendly features

Designed in collaboration with Al Di Meola and Melissa Etheridge, Ovation's OP-Pro Studio combines state-of-the-art audio quality with guitarist-friendly features for a preamp that should please even the most discriminating player. OP-Pro Studio lets you shape your sound with 3-band EQ, limiting/compression and exciter circuitry, and a chromatic tuner. Ovation Custom Legend AX

This is a beautiful well constructed guitar and a great deal for the money. Ovation's Lyrachord Contour Bowl is more comfortable then the standard ovation bowl. The action, neck, intonation and play-ability is very good..... plus like the other ovation guitars I own..... it stays in tune. This guitar sounds great unplugged, but where Ovations really shine is when they are plugged into an amp. The sound is incredible. This is the first item I have ever purchased from Sweetwater. Their service is perfect. Two thumbs up for the guitar.... and Sweetwater.

sound as good as the ones from years ago

i owned one of the older ones many years ago..other than cosmetics and electronics this is the same guitar.. same beautiful appointments minus the ornate carved bridge and raised rosette that adorned earlier models.. but still very stunning to look at. and the sound is very harp like especially when plugged in thanks to the lyrachord back yet still retains a beautiful acoustic character thanks to the onboard compression.. in other reviews there is a mention of the action being too high and this i agree with .. i personally prefer a very low action on acoustics .. this is totally fixable with some additional setup work.. i have noticed stock ovations all come this way with and overly high action..not sure why that is.. but the simple fix is to remove the two thin shims under the bridge and flip the tapered thick shim around the other way .. this levels the string against the radius of the fretboard and.. instant super playability.. at least for my tastes. read some complaints on the reviews of the black model about the neck having a shiny finish as opposed to a semi gloss oil.. kind of nitpicking there.. you can see the pictures before you buy it.. and that it has a finished neck i prefer that myself... tends to make the neck more stable over the changing seasons and requiring less overall adjustment i suppose you could always steel wool the finish if you wanted .. but i love mine just the way it is... all in all im very pleased with mine .. 4.5 for requiring a little setup out of the case and the fact they sent me a neck type truss rod tool which is useless on this guitar.. because it is a soundhole hex key adjuster kind of an odd size 4.5mm or something like that had to dig around to find on that worked but thats a small thing no big deal one final thought and once again this is minor.. the case.. cheap very thin poly.. no longer the super thick fiberglass of yesterday.. probably not suitable for the baggage compartment of a plane.. but plenty fine for everything else.. but it was a small let down because i remember the old ovation cases.. they were super heavy duty.. but if your not flying the stock case is just fine.. and it looks really nice.. overall an excellent guitar . no egrets at all .. very happy with it..
