Zappa-style Dynamic Phasing and Flanging

Zappa fan? So are many of the guitarists here at Sweetwater. And so is pedal-design guru Robert Keeley. The Keeley Bubble Tron delves into some of the signal manipulation techniques that helped make Frank Zappa such a distinctive lead guitarist. A flanger/phaser that dynamically responds to your pick attack, cycling only as you play, the Bubble Tron features a Random Stepped Filter with proprietary M-Style Synth bandpass shaping. Combine its three modes of operation in uniquely creative ways, and the Keeley Bubble Tron plays like an extension of your fingers - and your brain.

Keeley Bubble Tron at a Glance:
  • Dynamic flanging that's unique to your playing
  • Two phasers: standard and DynaPhase
  • Vintage synth-style Random Stepped Filter
Dynamic flanging that's unique to your playing

From the late 1970s through the mid '80s, Frank Zappa used the infamous MicMix DynaFlanger to forge many of his lead guitar sounds that relied upon envelope-based dynamic flanging. The effect starts and stops based on your pick attack, effectively creating an "envelope" that can be used to modulate another part of the circuit. Compare the Bubble Tron against any garden-variety flanger that simply cycles endlessly, and you'll agree that dynamic flanging creates an effect that's completely unique to your playing - and infinitely more engaging for your fans. In addition, the Bubble Tron offers a choice of either positive or negative feedback via its FDBK control, allowing you to customize your sound even further.

Two phasers: standard and DynaPhase

Lift the hood of the Bubble Tron's DynaMoPhase section, and you'll find two phasers. A standard phaser sports an LFO with a Rate Control that sets its speed. Depth is controlled dynamically. The other phaser is a true Dynamic Phaser that starts and stops according to your pick attack. Simply set the Depth and Sensitivity for a superbly watery phase effect based entirely on your guitar's signal. To run Bubble Tron full DynaPhase, kill the standard phaser by turning its Rate Control off.

Vintage synth-style Random Stepped Filter

The Bubble Tron's Filter Section is the only effect onboard that isn't dynamic. Deploy the Filter to control effect ramping, and explore degrees of randomness with the Shape Control. The Sensitivity Control is designed to act like a vintage synth-style bandpass filter, and with it you can elicit some fairly marvelous keyboard-like sounds. If you're a lead guitarist into sonic experimentation, you'll appreciate how powerful a tool the Keeley Bubble Tron is for forging your signature guitar sounds.

Keeley Bubble Tron Features:
  • Dynamic flanger/phaser pedal with Random Stepped Filter
  • Incorporates signal manipulation techniques employed by the legendary Frank Zappa
  • Dynamically responds to your pick attack, cycling only as you play
  • Combine its 3 modes of operation in uniquely creative ways
  • May be switched internally for standard (non-dynamic) phase/flange operation
  • Handcrafted in Edmond, Oklahoma, by fanatical Zappa fans

Premier Flanger/Phaser for Bass

I love this thing. I've got so much swooshy love for this pedal. It has a couple of internal dp switches. One for modern/vintage tone, one for bank 1/2. I run the second bank with vintage tone. I kind of collect flangers, this is currently my number one favorite.

Gotta love the Bubbles

Bought this for my son for Christmas. He plays in 3 bands and is a big Primus fan. He hooked it up and played for me. The sounds are incredible and very versatile. I'm mostly a keyboard player and those crazy sounds with the filter are reminiscent of a Model D and the regular flanger really sounds great. He loves it.

Great Weird Sounds

I love the Bubbletron! This pedal has a great range of weirdness and classic tones. The dynamic (default) settings have great Frank Zappaish tones which are very wet and trippy, but still useful. The internal switch turns the pedal effects into those classic sounds you hear from flangers, phasers and filters. Which makes the pedal extremely versatile. It's an amazing pedal for the price in my opinion and I highly recommend it. My personal favorite setting is the filter on the dynamic setting. Rate at noon and sensitivity fairly high. Great bubbly sound perfect for leads and ringing chords out. Grab yours today you won't be disappointed.

BubbleTron rules!

This pedal is a bad***! The flanging and phasing are superb, and I've already developed a very intense technique with the filter that I am keeping as my little secret. Wish the internal switches weren't internal, but that's a minor issue. I have traditional flangers and phasers for those applications.

Flanger and more!

This thing is nice, some might even say spectacular because of its ability to to do a little bit more that simple flange. It's like a phaser type of filter flange, with a very interesting formulation of wave types. It does the stereotypical flange also which is very nice because sometimes that's all you need.
