Great sounds

No need for the full sized keyboard. Just use midi and plug into any other synth. Sound banks are superb. Great for all styles of electronic music ambient, techno, new wave, space music or top 40 crap. Create your own edited sounds and enjoy. Very user friendly. Must have for the price.

Superb sound patches

This Synthesizer has the most amazing sound patches ever. Everything from piano to ambient. Look no further if you want a all around great synth. Don't need to buy the full sized Synth, just plug in to any other synth using midi cables or USB. Don't worry it you can edit all the sounds to your personal needs and same them. I own a Moroder Mini Nova, Yamaha MX49 and Roland Juno GI and by far this Blofeld Blows them away when it comes to sounds. Lots of potential. l

Excellent Multitimbral Solution

So close to perfect.Downsides:Only MIDI in (no out, no thru)All audio outbound in the same signal (no individual breakout of channels)Slightly limited polyphonySeriously, that's all the downsides.Upsides? Wow. Massively flexible sound architecture, 16 parallel MIDI channels of synthesis, slick matrix editing interface. Solid construction. Clear interface. Useful presets. Is there a learning curve? Sure. Does it take you a year? No. Not even a month to get useful results. This is an affordable, flexible, desirable workhorse. Plug it with MIDI into the polyphonic sequencer and controller keyboard of your choice, and rock the world. The Blofeld can take you there.

4.5/5

I gave this 4.5 stars because it took Waldorf a long time to fix all the issues, the good news is that apparently the latest firmware does just that. After several years of being patient I finally bought the Blofeld and I am satisfied that it is well worth owning. I own a Q and this is somewhat similar in certain ways but in others it is probably superior. I do not like all of the presets and am deleting them fairly quickly to make room for highly personalized sounds of my own. I am no longer searching for a XT...As noted by other reviewers is has a small foot print, is solidly made and versatile.Programming it with the matrix is fairly easy compared to certain older machines using only a few controls. After a couple of hours I find that the matrix is intuitive to use, fast and creative. My old D550 makes good sounds but it is a chore to get to them, a Nord micro is similar. Sure, computer editors have their place but I like getting somewhere with the sound design before the spark fades away.I feel like this device offers plenty of room for discovery. Color, tone and audio quality are very good in this little synthesizer. My biggest issue is finding room for it in my setup where I can reach it because it just seems to attract my fingers and ears a lot!
