Beyerdynamic Ribbon Bundle - M 130 and M 160
Special Order

Save $299 with This Ribbon Bundle!

Beyerdynamic is one of few microphone manufacturers worldwide that still produce ribbon microphones. Two of the finest examples of their work are the legendary M 130 and M 160 - now available in this exclusive bundle!

M 130 - Ideal for Mid-Side recording
When used in conjunction with the hypercardioid M 160, the M 130 is ideal for creating an authentic stereo image through the use of the M-S (Mid-Side) technique. The M 130 delivers excellent M-S results when recording or broadcasting a true stereo image.

M 130 - Outstanding for ambience recording
The M 130's rugged design handles the demands of remote recording/broadcast sessions as easily as in-studio use. Used by itself, the M 130 allows the recording of background audience noise and concert hall "ambience" without unwanted resonances. In the studio the M 130 is effective with backing vocal groups, percussion, and mounted toms. The M 130's crisply articulated, uncolored sound is well-suited to such demanding audiophile applications as digital and direct-to-disc recording.

M 160 - Use it anywhere
You'll be astounded at the wide range of applications for the M 160! Long regarded by audio professionals as one of the top choices for capturing the sound of a wide variety of acoustic stringed instruments - everything from violins and violas to acoustic guitars and zithers - the M 160 also delivers impressive results with typically hard-to-mic acoustic instruments in general. It can treat a blaring sax or a cracking hi-hat with the same skill and ease! Small and black chromium-plated to prevent glare, the M 160 is also ideal for television and film studios where discretion is important.

M 160 - Two ribbons!
The M 160 is a dynamic microphone that, unlike other ribbon mics, has two ribbons! These ribbons, each of which is only two-thousandths of a millimeter thick, are arranged one above the other just half a millimeter apart. Beyerdynamic's masterful technical design and production performance has produced a system that is sonically clear and well defined.

Sweetwater Advice

Nick Schenkel

My first experience with the Beyerdynamic M-160 was while I was working at a studio in Ann Arbor, MI. A guitar player brought one in to try out on his Fender '65 Twin Reverb. We set up a shoot-out with the M-160 about two feet back on-axis and centered along with several other "standard" guitar cabinet mics. To our suprise, the M-160 ruled the roost. The M-160 provided an amazing tone that was biting, full-bodied and clear. We were so impressed that the owner ordered an M-160 for the studio the very next day. When I saw that we currently have a bundle with the M-130 and the M-160, I knew that I had to pick them up. Given my experiences with the M-160 I was very interested to see how the M-130 would perform. I found that it was a bit warmer than the M-160, but overall very similar. The same silky, smooth tone was there, and when I put it a foot off of the 12th fret of my Alvarez PF-90SC there was no need for EQ. Everything sounded just the way I wanted it, and sat perfectly in the mix. If you are looking for a great introduction to ribbon mics, this bundle is a phenominal value. The two mics together can be used for Mid-Side encoding, generating that classic ribbon tone with a flexible stereo image. Seperately, they both perform wonderfully as well. They have become my mics of choice for recording stringed instruments, and I look forward to finding other applications for them as well.
