If you're DJing or producing Hip Hop or Dance music, Beats Studio by Dr. Dre are the perfect headphones for you. They've got LOTS of bass, and are both comfortable and sleek.
At first glance, if you didn't know Dr Dre and his long history in the music business as a producer, you might not understand the background of these headphones. The reality is, Dre knows beats. He knows what sounds good, he knows he wants deep rich low end, expanded midrange, and clear highs. The result is a time-tested and revolutionary headphone by a brand leader (Monster) with beats by Dr Dre. The sound I can attest to is clear, precise, not muddy on the low end, and overall a tool that every producer needs in their tool kit. If you're a hip hop producer, these are the headphones to get to bring your credibility instantly up a notch.
I've had (and still have) a lot of headphones over the years, and the Beats Studio headphones are quite different from the rest. They're not a FLAT reference headphone, but they are great for reference because they do have an enhanced bass response, which reflects the way a lot of people listen to music (not to mention that a lot of people listen on these very headphones). At the same time they're very clear and don't hide anything. And they're fun to listen to! The built-in digital amplifier ensures that you'll get plenty of volume regardless of what you plug them into, and outside of the studio the active isolation does a great job of letting you hear what you're listening to, wherever you are. They're the headphones I wear when I mow the lawn or fly now. And, while I've brought a lot of great equipment home over the years, these are easily the ones my kids were most excited about.
Even though the price is nuts, it's still a good investment. Something to use while playing and composing, NOT for mixing. Beats are awesome, but are a little exaggerated on the bass. Use monitors and more precise headphones for mixing.
