What an improvement over the BX8 D2. They punch above their weight. They are sold individually, NOT IN PAIRS, unlike prior M-Audio sets from years back.
I'm very pleased with the frequency response, but honestly not pleased with my recordings now that I found the flaws in the low-end I was looking for. Low-end is tight and very "controlled". Extension is good, not sibilant. I do not use a sub, and am not tempted to quite yet. The sweet spot is average, although i use them vertically, YMMV. I have not used the acoustic space controls (contour switches for reducing low freq buildup near a wall) on a final project as my studio is tuned well. I tried them out "just because", and they work as advertised however they will remain in the neutral slot.
Build quality is good. I'm still adjusting, but the one word summary is "neutral" sound ..nothing missing, nothing added. The SW pic makes them look small, the shipping box makes them look big. They are in the middle lol. There's a little pinhole with a purpleish-blueish light that helps you place them (and stay on when powered up) but i found my ears are the best calibrator to date. I still keep a handful of others on-hand for reference check. I see myself using these for the bulk of my work.
Overall, very very good. I would replace if stolen. More expensive than others but worth the upgrade. Mixing: mostly hard rock, alternative, jazz, some hip-hop.
