Buttery, Rich, and Smooth... the BV-1 is "That" Mic!

There's good reason the BV-1 tube condenser microphone belongs to Avantone's "Buttercream B Series." It's because this microphone gives you that hard-to-describe buttery smoothness, professional richness, and sonically sweet and airy top end — it's a very surprising tube microphone when you consider its affordable price. The BV-1 is a perfect fit as a go-to vocal microphone, as it just exudes class, both in its appearance and in its response. Although, you'll love how acoustic guitar, mandolin, drum overheads, percussion, and piano sound through your Avantone BV-1.

Rich and smooth response — "Buttercream B Series"
Avantone designated their B Series their "Buttercream B Series" — and there's a reason for that. You can expect the BV-1 to give you that smooth, rich, vintage response — with that airy open top end and warm, pleasing sonic character. It's a great mic sonically, not to mention aesthetically.

Well that was beyond worth it!!!!

Great microphone!!! just hit the the year and a half mark with it and it just keeps becoming my number one!!!! Very handy for it all, but stands out on vocals, its just effortless to have a voice sit right where its supposed to! has the sheen of a modern mic and the mojo of something 3 times the price.

Great Microphone

When auditioning vocal mics for sessions, the BV-1 is frequently chosen over other very respectable mics (Neumann M147 and U87, Telefunken AK47, AKG C414, Mojave 201fet). It has a full and rich sound without being too muddy or suffering from loss of articulation. The vocals sit nicely in a mix without being too forward or cutting, but they do not get lost in a busy mix. Thinner vocals benefit from the extra hefty this mic adds to some voices. I have not tried it much on sources other than vocals so I cannot attest to its merits in that regard, but I have high expectations based on it performance so far. It is heavy so make sure to have a very sturdy mic stand.

Underrated Mic

This was my first high end mic and it has taken my recordings to a completely different level! Everything from acoustic guitar and male and female vocals to drum room and clean guitar this mic delivers the warm tube character you would expect out of a mic made 50 years ago! A perfect mix of vintage character and modern sheen!

Thick vintage tube tone with a silky top end. Love it!

I have been searching for my go to vocal mic to record my vocals for sometime. I took a chance and bought the BV-1 after hearing some samples that were posted on a forum site. I have to say that I am very pleased with this mic. The pictures do not do this mic justice. It is much larger than I had expected and its build is very robust. It has a nice silky top end that is not hyped or too sibilant, however I did end up using a slight de-esser on mix down, the midrange is creamy and not overly hyped so you don't get that nasal sound. My voice sat nicely in my recorded tracks without the use of additional eq. The pop screen setup adds to the mics vintage vibe but you will have to use an additional pop filter with it unless you are at a good distance and off axis. Given the mics size you will have to purchase a heavy duty mic stand- the regular live ones won't cut it unless you want to risk dropping this baby. Not only did I find my go to mic for my voice it is amazing on acoustic guitar, can't wait to try it as a drum overhead. I will always be up for hearing different flavors of mics but for now the search stopped at the BV-1 for my voice.

Sweetwater Advice

Nick Schenkel

This is one of those mics that seems to be too good to be true. In this case, you can believe it! The Avantone BV-1 sounds great. With its selectable polar patterns, bass roll-off, built-in pad, and warm tube tone, this mic is a wonderful addition to any mic locker.
