Versatile stompbox lets you add some grind to your low end

The Behringer Bass Overdrive BOD400 effects pedal is versatile enough to give you everything from a slight grind to the sound of a tube stack that's on the verge of a meltdown. An onboard 2-band EQ lets you sculpt your tone to perfection, while the Balance control lets you blend the overdriven signal with your natural bass sound, so you can add plenty of tube-like tone without sacrificing your bass guitar's low-frequency content.

Behringer - a brief history

Uli Behringer showed an interest in music technology design at a young age, building his own synthesizer by the age of 16. In 1982, Uli began studying sound engineering and classical piano at the Robert Schumann conservatory in Dusseldorf, Germany. Uli's defining moment came when he was repairing a signal processor made by a high-end manufacturer. Despite the processor's expensive price tag, Uli realized that its internal components could be bought for a fraction of the cost. Being a strapped-for-cash student, Uli began building his own signal processors. Before he knew it, other students began requesting equipment from him. In 1989, after being bombarded with more orders than he could handle by himself, Uli created Behringer, Inc.

way better than I expected

When I got this, the bass limiter/enhancer, and the V-tone bass 21 DI pedals, I wasn't expecting very much. they are surprisingly good. great brand for those on a budget, or those looking to learn how to use pedals. I am getting back into playing music, and just starting bass. I haven't used very many pedals. I am playing on an ibanez srx 300 from the 90s with I am assuming are stock pickups, using a peavey basic 40 1x12 amplifier from the mid 80s, super wonderful clean and gain tones in the amp, but its got a bit too much treble. this pedal fattened up the sound with minimal use of the bass EQ knob, and it only takes a little bit of gain and some playing with the blend knob to get whatever level of drive you are looking for. it can get some really nice blues, rock, doom/sludge/desert rock tones. also, it allows for some really hot sounding surf rock. basically this pedal is going to be on most of the time I am practicing anything that isn't clean. Mine does hiss a little bit of hissing when its the only pedal in the chain. running it into the V Tone BDI21 eliminates it until the gain knob is rolled to 75% on, or the blend knob is turn on to 100% on the BOD-400. I haven't used a lot of pedals but this is as good as some of the 50-100 dollar drive pedals I tried at a local music store. I am glad I purchased this as its almost as good as the 80 dollar Overdrive pedal I was considering purchasing. Buying this, the V-tone, and the Bass limiter/enhancer for the same price allowed me to have 3 pedals to learn about. I can buy the more durable metal pedals later when/If I ever play live.
