Seagull's quest for tone gives you a better playing and sounding guitar

Robert Godin, owner of Seagull Guitars, has never been satisfied with good enough. His tireless search for the better guitar has created quite a few innovations that go into every guitar model that Seagull makes. Every Artist Studio Cutaway's top is pressure tested for rigidity and stiffness to ensure maximum harmonic vibration. The unique compound-curved top adds structural integrity to the guitar and allows for thinner bracing. Loaded with LR Baggs Element electronics, you'll be able to coax great acoustic tones plugged in. Take it from the Sweetwater crew - the Artist Studio Cutaway acoustic-electric will give you years of great performance.

Innovative neck construction and mounting delivers killer playability and tone

The attention and care given to each Seagull shows in their looks, playability, and tone. Seagull has also taken extra care to ensure that the Artist Studio Cutaway's neck helps create an amazing guitar experience. An acoustic guitar's neck is more than just a fretboard used for playing, it also creates the guitar's tone. Seagull's Integrated Set Neck gives your guitar the sound you want and the stability you need in a performing guitar. This system provides stable and consistent action that also reduces warping and twisting. Thanks to this integrated system, the Artist Studio Cutaway's neck pitch is perfectly set. If it's too far forward the instrument will sound muddy, or if it's too far back the guitar will sound tinny. Seagull's design assures optimized sound and playability with these and other innovations found in the entire Seagull line.

Handcrafted in Canada for more than a quarter of a century

For over 25 years, Seagull guitars have been handcrafted in the small village of La Patrie in eastern Quebec. About half of the population works creating these exquisite guitars. All of the guitars in the Seagull line are made in Canada from the S6 Original models to the Maritime models to the top-of-the-line Artist series guitar. Most of the tonewoods are also harvested from Canadian forests. You'll love the attention to detail, the quality tonewoods, and Seagull's commitment to make the best guitar possible. Grab a Seagull Artist Studio Cutaway and experience the difference.

Seagull Artist Studio Cutaway Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Pressure tested solid spruce top offers superior tone, projection, and response
  • Solid rosewood back and sides deliver warm, full acoustic guitar sounds
  • Modified dreadnought body shape cuts unwanted boominess making it great for recording and live shows
  • Integrated set neck offers tuning and playing stability and eliminates twisting and warping
  • Tapered headstock gives you a straighter pull, better tuning, and less stress, especially when using altered tunings

  • LR Baggs Element electronics deliver great plugged-in tone

Look No Further

When I started looking into my next acoustic, I went on an in-depth research campaign to find the best guitar for the money. I read all the expert forums & articles I could lay my hands on. After playing every under $5k guitar (i.e. dozens & dozens) in the many stores we have in our area for well over a month, I can firmly conclude that this guitar plays/sounds/constructed as good as any guitar under $5k. This sound is loud, rich/full, articulate, balanced across the spectrum (a middle ground between bright & warm). Sure there are other great all-wood guitars in the under $1.5k range that could be said the same, but this one is made in North America and with the great known craftsmanship you'd expect from Godin/Seagull (watch the Seagull Factory Tour video on Youtube). If you don't have hang-ups that you must have a much more expensive "me-too" M or T guitar to feel "fulfilled", then take a good hard look at this brand. The Artist models should indeed be more popular in the USA, as the craftmanship, sound, playability is all there in spades. (The model basics is built very similarly to a $4k+ 814ce Deluxe which uses Adirondack scalloped bracing, thinner finish for resonance, etc) Take a look at Peppino D'Agostino playing a very similar model (though with a 1.9" nut instead of 1.8") on Youtube to get an idea how it performs. Peppino uses many tunings (even in a song!), taps, flatpicks, fingerstyle, etc. He does it all with this guitar and then some. If it's good enough in this master's hands for tone/playability then who are we to raise a finger and say "Yeah, but Martin...". LOL.

A Work of Art

This guitar is everything that it was meant to be. It is simply a work of art. I actually shopped around for other brands/guitars because I already owned the Seagull Artist Mosaic (which is also very nice for the price), and never found anything close to what this offers, let alone for the price. The play is smooth, and the tone very silky. I can't go to any guitar store anymore and really enjoy picking up the nice Martins and Taylor's on the wall because it just makes me want to go home and play this guitar. The guitar arrived in mint condition with the action right where I wanted it. The guitar looks and feels solid, and is by far the nicest guitar I have played. Sweetwater also does a great job and getting it to you in a timely manner, and makes sure all the kinks are smoothed out before its shipped. All in all, a great by that I expect to well worth the money for years to come. Thanks Godin!

Unbelievable Value!

Workmanship was flawless. It really is a beautiful instrument. Sounds great right out of the box. It can only get better with time. This is the first electric acoustic for me and I was really surprised at the sound quality through a Fishman Loudbox Mini. The LR Baggs elecronics are great; and inconspicuous with the sound hole tone & volume controls. No ugly holes in the upper body. To duplicate this guitar in other brands would cost you twice as much. Joe James at Sweetwater was my rep and did a great job. Sent actual photos of the guitar and stayed in touch with me right through delivery. You can't go wrong with the builder or the retailer here.

The Sweetest Sound and Playability!

This guitar was the biggest surprise of any guitar I have owned, and that's a lot of 'em! Crisp highs, boomy bass, excellent mid range too! This was set up beautifully when it came to me and plays SOOO smooth right out of the box! Thank you Sweetwater!!! I have owned high end Taylors that did not sound this good OR play this good! In my humble opinion this is one of the best kept secrets in the guitar manufacturing industry and Seagull could command 2-3 times more than they charge for this fine instrument. The tone woods are exquisite, fit and finish just as good as a Taylor or Martin for a fraction of the price. Hard to put this one down, I want to play it all the time!

Excellent Instrument

I have been playing for over 40 years. This is a beautifully crafted instrument, fit and finish is top notch. Came out of the box in tune amazingly. The rosewood is stunning, the ebony fretboard beautiful. The playabilty superb and the sound delicious to the ears. I see a review knocking the finish, I am highly doubtful of that review. I own several Godin company guitars and not a single one of them have finish blemishes. Frankly I have one that is factory B stock, meaning it does have a blemish, hard to find. The quality control at all the Godin factories is superb, the slightest finish blemish would be rejects. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a top quality instrument at a reasonable price. I also own a Seagull Maritime Mini-Jumbo, also and excellent instrument.
