Universal Audio Apollo 16 - Thunderbolt Reviews

    Best business decision I made

Deciding to dump all my Avid hardware was not easy, especially in the current production market. But after chronic, almost predictable, dropped support (i.e. the Control24/ProControl debacle), forced upgrades and a cumulative $40k I've had enough. Going with a modular setup that incorporates software and hardware from multiple developers is an easy transition with this flexible unit. The plugin options are vast and I'm not married to only one developer. I now work in Studio One 2 and I don't regret it a bit. What started out as a matter of principle is now just good business.

    A True Game Changer

After winning a UAD Omni Quad Card from sweetwater i was sold with UAD plug-ins. I had a Avid HD 3 Accel and sold it - now i have an apple imac 27" , Apollo 16 QUAD, Omni quad PCI card and a Sonnet thunderbolt chassis (all from Sweetwater). I have power to spare and my system is rock solid and very affordable ... Universal Audio's quality and technical support is A+ ;-)

    Amazing Device

I came from a Motu Audio Express so I am not sure if thats much of a comparison, but the Apollo 16 is a beast. Super solid performance. Clarity in my outboard gear like i have not heard before. Plus having all that horsepower under the hook for UAD plugins is a for sure winner in my book.

    Game Changer

The Apollo is amazing. I owed a 002 for years. But between the better A/D conversion and the UAD processing in Mixdown I feel like I got a whole new studio when I bought this thing. It took my recordings to a completely different level. I can't even imaging going back. My only two complaints would be that the CPU really isn't powerful enough. I max it out on almost every mixdown, UAD should have put an OCTO in the Apollo 16. My other complaint would be the Console software. It can be difficult to use and slow down your work flow in the studio. Neither of these factors make me regret my decision to by the Apollo. Its the single most important piece of gear in my studio.

    Beautiful Sonic Reproduction

This unit is very well made and simple to use . It sounds so much better than the old 002`s and 003`s it is like night and day and the extremely low latency is great for someone like me who records all the parts myself by overdubbing.
