I've tried this pedal with an American Deluxe Strat, a Music Man Albert Lee (w/ 2 dimarzio hb), an American special tele and a Gibson SG. I've gotta say that it sounded really good with all of them. The presence control makes it very easy find the best tone. There's a lot of drive in there but you don't have to use it all the way down if you don't want to. My preferred settings is with the drive at 2 o'clock (60%). The tone control is very responsive. I liked it a lot with the tone at 3 and the presence at 9.

    Love it

My Angry Charlie was delivered yesterday, tried it on a Tele w/humbucker in the bridge position. Wow. I own a couple Schecter Hellraisers, whose EMGs are extremely hot, which is why I used my Tele first. i think this pedal is amazing. The sound is harmonically rich, very "ampy", and has tons of gain... as in both distortion-related gain and sheer boost power. I'm running mine at 18V instead of 9V, because JHS mentions that the pedal has more dynamic headroom that way. Really, really nice crunchy, juicy sound. Surprising for a pedal. I'm running it straight into an ADA speaker cabinet simulator. Awesome.

This is the best overdrive I have ever used. I have been playing for forty years now and I have never found a overdrive or distortion that I liked. This has changed everything. This pedal is very versatile. You can start at zero, hardly any drive, to pure soak. It can be bright, or dark. It acts like a tube amp. You can have the drive up, turn down your guitar volume and bring it down to nothing while maintaining volume and tone with hardly any drive. I play Jazz mostly, but I also play Rock, Blues, Funk, Experimental, and some Heavy stuff. This pedal does it all. I would recommend this pedal to any one who wants a warm rich wonderful tone,

    You favorite dirt box

I took back a Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe last week, and ended up with this thing. The Wampler was a nice unit, but didn't have the usable gain that the Angry Charlie does. I play an American Strat with a humbucker at the bridge (SD Pearly Gates) through a Vox AC15 C1. Main reason I took the Wampler back was that my amp could get most of "those" dirt tones... and get them in a better way IMO. Also, when you really push the Plexi Drive Deluxe into high gain territory with the mid boost it offers, it can get a little farty sounding when hitting sustained power chords .
The Angry Charlie is a very nice pedal. It's meant for high gain... Even at the lower drive settings it's fairly aggressive sounding. But that's what I wanted as the Vox is great for anything other than really high gain and I also have some other dirt boxes for the lower gain stuff.
An added extra bonus is that the Angry Charlie will also work with an amp that's already pushed into slight breaking up territory (which is important for me because the Vox isn't known for clean headroom). The Wampler did not do well at all in this situation... It was meant for a totally clean amp.

    Brown Sound Exraordinaire

I can help but keep a smile on my face when I use this pedal. The distortion you get out of this pedal sounds just like an old Marshall cranked up and breaking up. I love this more than my Keeley Red Dirt, which I found amazing to myself. This pedal is just an all around great over drive. Truly happy with this design of this pedal.
