Kick it Up a Notch!

The Fender Custom Shop Ancho Poblano Stratocaster electric guitar takes the classic Strat recipe and kicks it up a notch or two. The heart and soul of this powerhouse are the three hand-wound Ancho Poblano single-coil pickups. Fender's secret Custom Shop sauce gives the pickups the extra punch to push your amp harder and to enhance your solo work. And you vintage enthusiasts will feel at home with a comfortable playing experience engineered for the most discerning players. Add some spice with the Ancho Poblano Stratocaster.

Fender Custom Shop Ancho Poblano Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Ancho Poblano pickups pack a punch
  • Vintage appointments for a broken-in look and feel
  • Journeyman relic for a well-loved look
Ancho Poblano pickups pack a punch

The kick in this Stratocaster electric guitar comes from the hand-wound Ancho Poblano pickups. These Custom Shop designs are specially engineered to offer you spicy expressive tones that get progressively hotter from neck to bridge pickup. The middle and neck pickups are tweaked across the strings to enhance your solo work, while the flat-pole bridge pickup is fashioned for punch, making your guitar work your amp hard. And Fender has curbed these spicy pickups' microphonics and preserved their open-yet-focused tone by potting them in their own secret Custom Shop sauce.

Vintage appointments for a broken-in look and feel

While the voice of this Strat is more agressive than some designs, the feel of the guitar is based firmly on a great vintage platform. A quartersawn maple 1951 U-shaped neck has that comfortable baseball bat feel of some of the most sought-after necks of the '50s era. You also get the tone and control that can only be achieved with Fender's American Vintage synchronized tremolo with bent-steel string saddles. Even with its big, bold personality, the Ancho Poblano Strat oozes Fender purity of design in every way.

Journeyman relic for a well-loved look

A relic'd guitar finish is almost as common these days as a flawless factory finish. It was Fender Custom Shop that pioneered the process and they know it better than anyone. Fender offers different levels of relicing. One of the newer relic levels is the Journeyman found on this Custom Shop Ancho Poblano Strat. The nitro-lacquer finish gives you a look and feel that's used but not abused. Imagine a loved guitar that's been well taken care of but also definitely been played. It's totally broken in, but it holds up like a brand-new electric guitar.

My dream Strat...

I've owned quite a few guitars - Fender's, Gibson's, Teye's, etc... I like playing the blues. I like a dark neck and a brite bridge. I've tried various vintage models. I've tried swapping pickups. never quite "scratched the itch" - even after trying a custom classic Strat in 2011. Now I love my CS 2011 and I've picked up a 2017 professional that I like as well. But after reading the description of the AP, I called Dontea at Sweetwater and arranged to come in to test drive the one left in stock. When I wrapped my hand around that Louisville Slugger neck, I knew I was buying the guitar. I learned on an old 1951 profile neck on one of my grandpa's old Nocasters. I prefer an NOS finish, but the Journeyman finish works on this model - along with the bakelite single ply pick guard. The pickups are what makes this guitar sing. Dark neck, howling brits bridge and the bonus is the middle pickup balances them out - tying this beautiful monster together. Texas blues - SRV, etc. Dark Night from the Dusk Til Dawn soundtrack. Sweet Home Chicago Matt Murphy style. She makes a mean "Won't Get Fooled Again" too... I love the monster neck - but I do not have small hands. She's NOT for shredders. She's for players. No disrespect intended. But I do play warmups from 20+ years of formal training - warmups that have ironically BECOME tunes like "Eruption" and "Thunderstruck" and they sound very meaty on this rig. Again, the AP is a special setup for pretty specific player. I just happen to fall into that specific target they were shooting for - and I've gotten used to NOT being targeted too often. It's nice to have happen now and then. Did I mention? I love everything about this neck. The thickness, the subtle change in profile. The edges. The frets. The balance with the weight of the substantial body? It's a balanced rig with amazing pickups. Well done, Fender CS!
