Digital Conversion from SSL!

With the Alpha-Link Series, Solid State Logic breaks from their normal routine of producing some of the best sounding analog gear around and leaps into the world of high-end digital conversion. The Solid State Logic Xlogic Alpha-Link Audio I/O product range is a new collection of highly flexible and fully featured multi-channel Audio Converters for studio, live and broadcast applications at an incredible price/performance ratio. There are three Alpha-Link models featuring high quality 24-channel SSL enhanced AD/DA converter circuitry and offering a choice of digital audio format options.

XLogic Alpha-Link MADI AX At-a-Glance:
  • Versatile
  • Use it Standalone or with the Mixpander Card

The XLogic Alpha-Link series of Audio Converters are stylishly designed, 2U-high rack-mountable units with deceptively simple front panel controls. Each offers a comprehensive input/output routing matrix used to set up global connections between the various I/O connections that makes all combinations possible. There is also a handy front panel headphone connection and a metering section for the analogue inputs and outputs with an AD/DA selection button, mode indicator LEDs and 24 tri-color level LEDs.

Use it Standalone or with the Mixpander Card
All Alpha-Link units can be used as standalone format converters, but used in combination with a Mixpander PCI card they provide a powerful, highly flexible I/O solution for native PC-based audio workstations. Featuring up to 64 channels of digital MADI I/O at 48kHz (or 32 channels at 96kHz), 24 ADAT Lightpipe digital inputs and outputs at up to 48kHz (12 ADAT Lightpipe digital inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz), 24 balanced analogue I/O, TDM Expansion Bus and much more, the Alpha link MADI SX delivers a dependable, versatile, high quality MADI to ADAT Lightpipe based conversion solution.

XLogic Alpha-Link MADI AX Features:

SSL Alpha Link - This box rocks!

After a ton of research and almost deciding to go with RME, I ran across the Alpha Link. I read nothing but positive reviews on the sound quality of the unit. I decided to take a chance and ordered the box and the MADIXtreme 64 card. This box delivers! Now I have 24 In and 24 out of analog! My snare jumped out of the speakers and punched me in the face. All the sonic characters showed up in my mix - punch, depth, clarity, shimmer, glue and more glue! For the price point, sound quality, and the 24 stellar a/d and d/a converters - this box rocks!

Amazing product, great price!

Works rock solid, and sounds on par if not better than converters well beyond this price point. All in a 2U rack space. I love it!

Great Converters

I bought Alpha Link AX a little over month ago. I always been fan of SSL and I was aiming for this purchase for 2 years. 1st thing i noticed after hooking everything up... Nice warm and clean sound. Open and big. 24 channels for that price... can't go wrong with it. I use it with D.M. D-Box and love it. Comparing both D/A conversion of SSL and DBOX, SSL is a bit warmer sounding while Dbox is a bit brighter but not necessarily harsher. One thing that I took out .5 star for is lack of SPDIF (SX version has AES/EBU) but other than that great unit.

Great piece of gear

This piece of gear sounds great and is a welcome addition to my studio. The converters work great and the routing is fantastic. There are many options for you. The only drawback of the Alpha-Link only goes up to 96k. If it would samplt at 192, it would have received 5 stars.

Bang for buck

I bought an Alpha Link AX (without MADI) in 2007 and found it to be fantastic. At that time I also purchased the Mixpander 5. In my opinion the Alpha Link offers unparalleled 'bang for buck' with 24 in/out and ranks among the best sounding AD/DA converters on the market. The first year I had my Mixpander/Alpha link, however, I had to replace the Alpha Link (on warranty) and now again in year four I am faced with repairing, or replacing my Alpha Link. I still rate this converter 3.5/5 stars because of its remarkable sound quality and ease of use, but the reliability has certainly been an issue in my hands.
