Quality Audio for Your Video Applications

Sennheiser's AVX digital wireless microphone system is the easy solution to getting great audio for your video recordings. If you're running an HD or DSLR camera to get the best quality picture you can, why are you compromising your shots with mic cables or worse, trying to get decent audio with your camera's onboard mic? With a receiver that plugs right into your camera's XLR audio connections (or 1/8" input using the included adapter) and virtually no set-up, Sennheiser's AVX digital wireless makes getting your videos the audio it deserves easy.

Sennheiser AVX Digital Wireless Microphone System at a Glance:
  • Compact format with full-size operation
  • Sennheiser sound and powerful wireless transmission
  • Not just for video
Compact format with full-size wireless operation

With 1.9GHz digital wireless operation, Sennheiser's AVX wireless microphone systems stay well out of range of other digital transmission devices that usually flood other frequency ranges, leaving your audio susceptible to signal dropouts and interference. At Sweetwater, we keep a close eye on the dwindling frequency situation to make sure that when we send you a wireless microphone or instrument system that you'll be able to use it for years to come. Just plug the receiver directly in to your camera's XLR input, or use the included adapter and hot shoe attachment when using 1/8" audio inputs, press the pair button, and you are ready to record. Most professional cameras these days have an XLR input that also provides phantom power - the AVX receiver turns itself on and off automatically when it detects the phantom power from your camera, saving you precious battery power while you're shooting. If you've already got lights or other attachments mounted on your camera, no worries - the AVX receiver swivels to get out of your way. Great audio doesn't get much more convenient than the AVX!

Sennheiser sound and powerful wireless transmission

The Sennheiser ME 2 is an omnidirectional electret-condenser lavalier microphone that delivers sharp, clean sound when you're recording presentations or interviews. The discreet and powerful Sennheiser ME 2 joins the rechargeable AVX body pack, giving you a convenient, great-sounding wireless option.
And with this special combo set you also get the Sennheiser SKM AVX-835 handheld microphone gives you incredible performance and dependability along with easy wireless operation. With its ultra-low handling noise and incredibly rugged construction the SKM AVX-835 is a dependable wireless mic when you're shooting person-on-the-street interviews or capturing pass-the-mic Q and A sessions in a large meeting. And the mic automatically matches your camera's input sensitivity without you having to do any level adjustments onboard the camera or the microphone itself. Yes, it's that simple to get great audio, even on those occasions when a dedicated audio engineer just isn't in the budget.

Not just for video

What else can you use AVX wireless systems for? Use it with handheld recorders for interviews when you don't need to record video and don't want to carry around mic cables. If you're using a digital mixer, the AVX system plugs into the stage box right there onstage - the transmitter and receiver will be well within the 98-foot transmission range eliminating any distance-related issues you've had and all without having to run a single cable to your front of house mix position. AV rental houses that use a number of wireless systems for general session and keynote speakers can simply plug the receivers into an analog snakebox onstage and run the signal to wherever in the room the client positions tech central. This cuts down on the number of XLR cables that have to leave the warehouse and common cable failures will be completely avoided. In fact, when you combine all of that with the AVX's 1.9GHz digital operation and automatic transmitter-receiver pairing, rental houses will substantially reduce the amount of time and error that goes into setting up multi-system wireless setups, saving time, money, and reputation.

Sennheiser AVX Wireless System Review

I have seen the new AVX system at an Audio-Visual Expo and I asked a few questions about it. I made some research online and also watched videos about its performance. Therefore, I decided to purchase a pair of the system from Sweetwater. I have done some tests on my own and I can honestly say that my money was well spent. I am loving it.

The AVX Wireless Mic = Perfect for Indie Video Production

I've been doing small budget style video content for about three years, and one of the biggest challenges has always been audio. Having a great mic that integrates directly into your video recording is super essential for small teams and quick edits.AVX takes the sound headache out of the equation with its simple to use combo set. I've mostly used the handheld for run and gun style interviews, and it works incredibly well. It's also nice to have the lav mic for more low-key host type of segments where there is no one being interviewed. The mic was super easy to set up out of the box, I just charged up the components (mic/receiver) and plugged it into the hot shoe mount on my Canon T4i, and I was off. A simple level check and a couple of tests to familiarize myself with the range and I was ready to go.So if you are an independent content producer, professional event videographer, etc. The Sennheiser AVX system will change your sound game and make your life a LOT easier and speed up your output. It's worth the small upgrade price on the combo pack as it's nice to have both handheld and lavalier mic options. I highly recommend it.

Might Be the Answer

Like many folks in the video business, we are sweating the wireless mic frequency changes being made by the FCC. Considering the thousands of dollars we invested in Lectrosonics Wireless Microphones over 10 years ago, we had some big decisions to make. We knew our analog days were over and really we wanted to spend less than the $10K we spend on the fine Lectrosonics that were worth every penny we spent. Brian Loney at Sweetwater suggested we consider the new Sennheiser AVX wireless systems. The price was right, less than 50% of the Lectrosonics. Our first day went very well. Setup was a snap and audio quality was fine. I was prepared for the range to be reduced by the digital transmission, but it absolutely was not. Leaving one mic in our our studio our editor walked at least 250 feet away, outside the building and had no issues. So distance is just as good as any other quality UHF system. The rest of the features are explained in the Sweetwater overview. A quick reality check, while the audio is great, this is not the same steel case of the Lectrosonics, so don't pitch them in the back of the van. I would have gladly paid more for a stronger build quality. Sennheiser offers 2 different lav mics. We bought the MKE2 which clearly sounds better.
