I am so mad at myself for not getting this the day I bought my amp, (Fender Champion 20). I never really liked what I was getting out of it but as it was just a practice amp and used for small venues I figured it was alright. Then as I was getting new pedals and pickup and working on every other aspect of my sound gear it occurred to me that I had neglected to think about a speaker upgrade, (duh). You will not be disappointed, I was thinking maybe it will sound a little better but no, it sounds much much better, everything I did not like about the sound of my amplifier was gone, this speaker sounds delicious. I will soon get one for my Deluxe reverb....

What a difference

I never thought that changing out the stock speaker in my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe would make such a difference in my tone. I've spent a lot of money on my pedal board but could never quite dial out the unpleasant harshness and mid-range bump that I was hearing. The A-Type does this perfectly for my needs. My Mad Professor overdrive pedal now sounds divinely smoother with more head room and great note articulation. Like some others, my primary tone is an edge of breakup rhythm tone that just doesn't sound that good if you are using a speaker designed to overly emphasize mid-range frequencies. The A-Type tames these mid-frequencies while still allowing your tone to cut through the mix. Highly satisfied with this product.

A versatile speaker that does it all well

It seems to me this A-Type allows the sound of various amps and guitars to come through without an overt tonal signature of its own. Great mid dimensionality and I am really satisfied with the high end being smooth but neither dull nor brittle, thus being able to get shimmery Fender clean and Vox chime as well as heavier Marshall type crunch and lead type stuff without there being some sort of tonal compromise. You can really whack this with the bridge pickup of a Tele and get the desired bite without the "icepick". Also super for jazz with a hollow body. I mounted it in an open back cabinet: six months now with various tube amps and also an AX8: Completely happy with it.

The Right Choice

This speaker needs to be broken in, but it happens quickly. After that it really comes alive. I have paired it with a 15 watt 6v6 Fender Super Champ X2 (another home run for the dough and not a toy) and the match is perfect. Also plugged it into a Mesa Lone Star Special, Quilter Micro Pro Mach 2, and Laney Cub 10 all with great success. Very nice at any volume, clean or dirty (I get my dirt with pedals). Playing at lower volume requires a richer bottom end which this speaker does very nicely without being over done.I am writing this review to hopefully help other folks that may be on the fence on this one, as we all know buying speakers is a gamble as there no returns. I would purchase again.

Wanted a speaker with more clarity. I loaded this into my older Vox AD50VT. It changed the entire game. I now get great articulation from this amp. This speaker is well worth the $$$$. This speaker made a huge difference.
