Analog warmth - optimized for the digital era

Can't afford a big API console for your DAW-based studio? No worries. Designed for professional project studios and production facilities, The Box gives you that classic API analog mojo at a much more down-to-earth price. Optimized for the digital era, The Box delivers all the functionality you don't get from your DAW, including mic preamps, input signal processing, a high-quality mix bus, cue sends with talkback, monitor control, and much more, while eliminating the redundant capacities of larger boards. You get the legendary all-discrete API sound in a compact, cost-effective package.

Record and mix in style

For recording, The Box gives you four input channels. Channels 1 and 2 are equipped with preamp, filter, 550A EQ, insert, assignable compression, and output routing. Channels 3 and 4 deliver the same features, but for an additional measure of flexibility, each has a 500 Series slot in place of the onboard EQ. When it's time to mix, The Box gives you 16 dedicated summing input channels, as well as the four input channels, for a total of 20 channels. All channels, input and summing, sport a fader, mute, pan pot, program bus assignment, insert, solo, solo safe, and aux/cue sends. Unity-gain buttons on the summing channels let you bypass the faders and deliver the signal straight to the pan pots - a very useful feature when you're mixing DAW tracks that already have fader and mute automation. And speaking of those 100mm long-throw faders, did we mention how incredible they feel?

With The Box, you are master of your studio

The Box's comprehensive master section gives you controls for program bus insert and external inputs, aux and cue masters, solo master, VU meters, talkback, and a full-featured monitor section that supports two stereo speaker systems plus headphones. As a bonus, the master section includes two API 527 compressors that are assignable to the input channels when you're recording, and to the program bus when you're mixing.

API - a tradition of high-quality audio

In 1968, Automated Processes Inc. began building quality consoles for broadcast applications. Soon, the company's products found favor with recording studios, and a string of industry-leading advancements (including computerized console automation, the first VCA, and more) followed. API produced the 2520 amplifier, one of the most famous op-amps in the recording industry, and their consoles and products found homes in such iconic studio facilities as The Hit Factory, Record Plant, Ocean Way, and Sunset Sound, among others. In fact, there are over 700 classic API consoles around the globe - many of which are still in use. And the company certainly isn't resting on its laurels; today's API products give you the same unbeatable combination of utility, innovation, and great sound.

API The Box Small-format Recording/Mixing Console Features:

The BOX Rocks!

I've had the BOX for nearly a month now and...... I Am In Love With It. ..Here's why: Totally connectable - everything is patchable on the back and switched in circuit on the front. Basically all the stuff you need and take for granted... Solo-In-place, Solo Clear - Talkback to any buss or aux, multiple stereo outs, four mono sends, compression switchable to input or program buss, 16 line channels with pan, level, inserts and sends, four recording channels that can be used at mix-down with a simple patch. Two of the four have EQ with 500 slots for the other two. Want to take out the EQ and patch in your favorite? Patch it in on the back and then switch it in or out - no going back to unplug the patch to hear it differently as all possible patch point are available on switches in the front. It sounds great and is super quiet. I turned up all 16 outputs from Protools HDx and listened as loud as I could and then stopped the playback. No hiss, nothing. then continued pushing all BOX faders to the top..... no noise..!!!. Nothing is done halfway with this.. The aux sends have masters and solos and switches on each channel, the talkback can go to anything, the monitor section is complete with several inputs and the inserts all can be switched in/out on the front. Whatever they decided to add to this, they did it fully and correctly. And that's where you start to notice the beauty of it. It just is such a great workflow addition. Speaking of beauty, It looks great as well and is ergonomically perfect to spend long days with. If you want to have fun again and not skimp on sound or workflow then this is for you. I have never been happier with a piece of equipment. ... the BOX Rocks!!!** Carl ** -so does Robby Resnick my Sweetwater rep. Call him if you don't have one already. And a toss to Colin Williamson (a great support guy who deserves more than a mention for helping me with various needs). PS - API has the best customer service I've ever come across.
