The Best AC-15 I've Found
I've owned quite a few Vox amps over the years, including the AC30 handwired, the AC15 heritage handwired and a AC30 custom classic, plus several Bad Cat's & Matchless amps that were all a bit voxy. As someone who likes to set a great clean sound, then use pedals for overdrive and distortion, the fact that all of these were finicky with pedals (some more than others) was disconcerting.
I'm not sure if it's the mostly closed back, the higher wattage creamback speaker or something else, but this particular ac15 has a better clean sound with a tighter low end than any Vox I've ever heard. My Timmy, Rat and a Vick Audio '73 Rams Head Muff sound amazing with it. The fuzz doesn't flub out on the low end and there is no high end harshness on the normal or the top boost channel. My usual setting on master volume amps is to have the master wide open, but even dialing it back a bit, the amp still sounds really great at low volumes, which I was impressed by. That usually isn't the case.
The reverb isn't super splashy like Fender reverb, but I actually prefer this type. It has a nice depth to it. The tremolo sounds great too. I wish a footswitch to switch them on and off was included with the amp. That would really be my only minus on the amp, but I'm sure I can find one to work with it.
I think Vox hit a home run with this one! As always, Sweetwater shipped fast and the customer service is top notch.
