    Taylor

I was initally concerned the Taylor GS body might be bulky and difficult to play in comparison to a GA bdy. Having tried both side by side, I can scarcely tell the difference in the feel, but the difference in the sound is unmistakable. The richness of the GS sound in the 800 series, particularly in the low end is really just amazing. I am equally blown away by the craftsmanship of the Taylor folks. The guitar is absolutely stunning. Thanks Taylor!

Amazing Guitar, but there are some weird mistakes Taylor made

This is an incredible guitar, make no mistake. It's the prettiest guitar I've ever owned or played, and by far the best sounding. When you pick it up there is no doubt you are holding a very unique instrument with a superior sound. And it plays so smooth it's almost unbelievable. But there are a few impractical features if you plan to use it to play live, all centered around the battery. The battery for the electronic pickups is right by the back strap hook, and it's very near impossible to open. I broke three fingernails trying to get it out last night at a gig, when the battery died in the middle of a set. And why did it die? It was a brand new battery, but we were asked to take a break at this gig we were playing and I forgot to unplug when I set my guitar down. After 35 minutes the battery was completely dead. So now I'm trying to pull the battery case out of the guitar, I'm breaking fingernails, people are waiting for us to start playing again, it's a nightmare. I finally get it out and the battery is wedged so tight in the compartment I can't get it out. Finally I do, but I can't get the new one in. Overall, it took us almost 15 minutes to get a new battery in, and by then people were starting to walk out. And the saddest part of the whole story... this is the third time this has happened to me. I can't understand why Taylor would put so much into making this the most amazing guitar ever, and not work on making a simple thing like a battery change a little more accessible. That whole component just seems like it wasn't thought through by someone who used the instrument for live performances. So just be aware: You won't find a better sounding acoustic guitar... anywhere... ever. But if you plan to use it at live gigs realize that the battery runs through it's life REALLY fast, and changing it is a major, difficult process. Don't plan on doing it live or under pressure.

    Believe the hype

I had a 314 for a while and was looking to upgrade. After a few months of reading reviews and watching youtube videos I picked this one. Boy, was that the right pick. Believe all the positive reviews that are out there. This thing punches. All notes and bar chords sound full and even. When you pick, the notes come to life and make you sound better in my opinion. If you don't know what "piano bass" is, it's full, deep and crisp low end. That's the best adjective I can find with this instrument: Crisp. The neck seems a little thicker but you still have perfect action and it's nice and loud. You're really getting what you pay for here. I may not need the binding, rosewood and inlays but it sure is easy on the eyes. The 16 isn't too much bigger than the 14 but I bet the difference is in the bass.

    Phenomenal

I wanted a switch up from the somewhat dull earthy tones of my Martin D-15. The D-15 never recorded very well so I checked out various Taylors. Having played am 814ce I decided on the 816ce without actually playing one, as I play a little more rhythm than fingerstyle. When I got the 816 I wasn't disappointing. Although it is set up for medium gauge strings, it plays almost exactly the same as the 814 with it's lights, and that is to say amazingly! I can play lead on it almost as well as an electric, fingerstyle is a breeze and it sounds amazing for strumming - bight clearly articulated with a well rounded but not overwhelming bass presence.
The expression sound system is a huge leap forward form standard Piezo pickups, and I would not hesitate to use it in a live setting, although I get better results in the studio recording with a decent condensor mic.
As expected, the overall finish of the guitar is of an incredibly high standard and it looks beautiful too. An inspiring instrument to play and in every way worth the price!
