Small-bodied Taylor with Big Tone!

Taylor's redesigned 812ce acoustic-electric guitar is the culmination of 40 years of experience and research. The 812ce features Indian rosewood back and sides, premium-grade Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck with ebony fretboard, and a pearl inlay design. Taylor went back to the drawing board to create custom bracing for each guitar model to give you the most out of your guitar. The Grand Concert body shape is a favorite among fingerstyle players for its focused voice and balanced tone. You'll love the sound of Taylor's updated Expression System 2 at your plugged-in gigs. The Taylor 812ce Grand Concert has a robust output, dynamic range, and sensitive response for all types of players.

Taylor 812ce Grand Concert Acoustic-electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Super-comfortable Grand Concert body style provides excellent tonal balance
  • A richer, more vibrant voice than ever before thanks to custom bracing
  • Taylor Expression System 2 electronics deliver superior sound onstage
Super-comfortable Grand Concert body style provides excellent tonal balance

Taylor's Grand Concert body style gives you clarity, focus, and balanced tone that sits beautifully in thicker arrangements where a larger-bodied acoustic would take up too much real estate. The 812ce acoustic-electric guitar's smaller body and tapered waist not only make it the ultimate studio and stage guitar, but its short scale and lighter string tension also make it a fingerstyle favorite.

A richer, more vibrant voice than ever before thanks to custom bracing

You'll notice that the Taylor 812ce boasts exceptionally vibrant tones with a unique character. Taylor went back to the drawing board and redesigned their bracing patterns to get the optimum response out of each of their iconic body shapes. Taylor even added side bracing to add rigidity to the sides and enhance top and back movement. In the words of luthier Andy Powers, the updated bracing pattern gives the 812ce a "nice, cushy swell and long sustain, even with a delicate touch."

Taylor Expression System 2 electronics deliver superior sound onstage

If you play plugged in, then you're going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into your 812ce acoustic-electric guitar. The key to this fantastic system is the 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the saddle. Because of where it's positioned and how it's integrated into the 812ce's saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls let you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet phase switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression. Sweetwater knows that your plugged-in tone is important to you, and we're confident that the Taylor 812ce has the sound you want.

Taylor 812ce Grand Concert Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • 812ce with updated bracing and electronics

  • Custom-designed bracing provides better response, projection, and tone
  • Expression System 2 electronics deliver natural acoustic sound to your amp or PA

Exactly what I expected -- great buying experience

First a comment about Sweetwater service. It's outstanding. Almost like buying from your local shop in terms of exchange of merchandise. Two huge factors were seeing the exact guitar I was purchasing. Mine has a particularly nice spruce top with excellent though subtle grain. Back and sides have clean grain. Another plus is the time afforded to examine the guitar before deciding whether to keep it. Many online shops give you 48 hours. Sweetwater is more generous. Delivery was extremely prompt (48 hours). Guitar was expertly packaged to provide double layers of cardboard protection outside the case. My Sweetwater rep (Jon G.) has always been excellent. I've worked with him for years and trust his judgment and commitment to service. He calls to inform me about shipping and provides a personal touch. Guitar arrived in the expected mint condition (already spot on tuned) looking EXACTLY like the professional quality pictures. Oh, and they send you those pictures when you buy the guitar -- just a nice little touch. Now for the 812CE. I'm not new to Taylors. I have a nice 312CE. I like the smaller fingerpicking size. Both the 312 and 812 are unquestionably Taylors....they have the Taylor sound but they aren't identical (if they were I'd send the 812 back). The first thing about the 812 is the sustain. Wow. Three to four times the sustain of the 312. Wasn't expecting that even though on line reviews but accomplished players mentioned that. The normal tuning frequency response balance is different. It's ...more balanced. The 312 is a bit on the brighter side with an emphasis on the mids and highs. The 812 is definitely more robust on the low frequency providing a fuller, balanced sound across the entire range. The 812 has different specs than other Taylor series guitars. Not sure which, or which combination explains this tonal difference. It's tempting to just chalk it up to the rosewood back and sides, but I think it's probably more than that. I never play amped, so I can't comment on the E2 pickup system. Case is substantial. Guitar has a "piston fit" in the case. You can't just plop it in. You have to carefully ease it in. Fit and finish for the 812 is excellent, but it's that good for the 312 too. The 812 has slightly more bling and trim which look great. Couldn't say the cosmetics alone justify the nearly $2K added cost of an 812 compared to the 312. The different tonal balance and sustain, coupled with the bling do. I'm happy with my purchase.

Taylor 812ce 1st Edition

I was lucky enough on the recent purchase of Taylor's 812ce to get my hands on a 1st edition model, which is beyond my expectations. The grand concert body size id almost identical to my classical guitar and fits my finger style playing the guitar is stunningly beautiful and has a wonder voice. I've used the ES2 system through a Marshall AS100D and it has a the pickup system works flawlessly. My thanks to Chris at Sweetwater who provided answers to my questions and ensured great delivery of this exceptional Taylor guitar.
