Great sound to go!

The Sound Devices 722 digital 2-track recorder gives you a compact, file-based solution for easy and effective field recording applications. The 722 is capable of writing and reading uncompressed PCM audio at 16 or 24 bits, with sample rates between 32 and 192kHz. Compressed MP3 audio playback is also supported. The addition of high-quality preamps and two recording media (hard drive and CompactFlash with FireWire capability as well) means you can record and play back a huge amount of pristine audio just about anywhere with the 722.

Portable, High-Resolution Audio RecorderThe two-channel 722 is a powerful file-based digital audio recorder. The super-compact device records and plays back audio to ite 160GB internal hard drive, CompactFlash cards, or external FireWire drives. It writes and reads uncompressed PCM audio at 16 or 24 bits with sample rates between 32kHz and 192kHz. Compressed (MP3) audio playback from 64 kb/s to 320 kb/s are also supported.

Exceptional Mic Pres

The 722 implements a no-compromise audio path that includes Sound Devices' next generation microphone preamplifiers. Designed specifically for high bandwidth, high bit rate digital recording, these preamps set a new standard for frequency response linearity, low distortion performance, and low noise.

Small Size, Big Performance

No other recorder on the market matches its size or feature set. In addition, its learning curve is quite short-powerful does not mean complicated. While the 722 is a very capable recorder by itself, it truly excels when used in conjunction with an outboard audio mixer such as Sound Devices' own 442 or 302.

Storage Options

Its two internal drives (hard drive and Compact Flash) are highly reliable, industry standard, and easily obtainable. The removable, rechargeable battery is a standard Sony-compatible Li-ion camcorder cell. The 722 interconnects with Windows and Mac OS computers for convenient data transfer and backup.

Sweetwater Advice

Kayte Revitte

Upon first opening the box, I instinctively knew how to use the 722 because it is laid out attractively and intuitively. The major features can be used immediately without any configuration. I plugged in a Shure KSM9 and began recording at 24 bits, 96 kHz to the internal 40GB hard drive. I wanted to take it out in the field so I took it to a venue to record a friend's rock band. I arrived late, but was able to set up to begin the field recording in less than a minute. The 722 has a bright backlit display and LED meter so it was easy to see the levels, file name, elapsed time, and battery level in the dark venue. It also has locking input gain knobs to prevent accidentally moving the knobs. When I got back home to listen, I was blown away by the accurate sound. The sound of the 722 is incredibly clear and free of noise or distortion. The high quality and ease of use makes this hands-down my choice for stereo field recording.
