Full Boat Power for Your Bass

The Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II bass amp head delivers brisk transient response and an abundance of warm, punchy tone, imbuing your sound with both roundness and articulation. This is an authoritative beast, but you're in the driver's seat with built-in bi-amplification: a dedicated 480-watt power amp circuit drives the lows while a 50-watt amp takes care of the highs. This configuration is ideal for powering a variety of bass rigs - including GK enclosures fitted with their Horn Bi-Amp System. Whatever speakers you're driving, separate volume controls let you fine-tune the woofer/tweeter blend.

Legions of bassists have made RB Series bass amps a fixture on stages and in studios worldwide for over two decades. Why? It's that distinctive RB sound: GK's G.I.V.E. (Gate Induced Valve Effect) technology that lends just the right amount of tubularity and grit to your bass, while proprietary voicing filters and intuitive four band active EQ let you zero in on your signature sound quickly and easily. The 700RB-II offers further sonic customization in the form of contour, presence, and 4-/5-string voicing controls. Go ahead - dial in some boost and listen to the magic. The bottom line is: if it's robust, full boat bass power you're after, then the Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II definitely needs to be on your shortlist.

Best amp on the market

I bought this amp used in 2012. I previously ran the ampeg STV 4 pro with classic series 410 and 118. After one gig with the RB700,I was done with ampeg. I struggled with head room, (I had to peak the head out very time I played with a band), and securing a tone with the ampeg set up, never really worked to satisfaction. With the RB700, it didn't matter where I was playing, or who messed with the controls, it took seconds to dial in a good tone I never had to clip this head in any live application. After looking into other amps, demoing gear at NAMM, I would rather stay with this amp. I have not considered venturing since. If this amp ever breaks, (not sure how old it is, but it was gigged with by active band when I bought it), I have no question, I'll buy a new one.

Superior Amp Head

The GK website states, "Heavy duty chassis, large toroidal transformer and double sided boards ensure stable performance under the most rigorous tour conditions." When it arrived I popped off the cover and was very impressed by the build quality which was nothing short of impressive. It fit the website claims to a tee. The chassis and cover are THICK steel, not the cheap sheet stuff many other manufacturers use (probably to keep the price low. OK if you only play at home or a studio) and the top panel (where the top cover screws into the front panel) is double layer steel. In over 40 years of buying bass/guitar amp heads, I've never come across a metal cased amp head built as strong as this GK 700RB Mark II. The tone is excellent, tons of output, Bi-Amp capable, superb parametric EQ and has a super quiet cooling fan that's vented through the top cover. All front panel potentiometers have a firm, smooth feel, as do the push buttons. This is how to build a power amp folks.

Warm and super punchy solid state reliability

Tons of headroom, musical EQ and tone of options for the tone tweaker if you're biamping with a GK cabinet. I run this into two 8 0hm GK cabinets and get huge headroom and punch, even without the boost knob. I'll take this head to gigs without a cab and plug into whatever is on the back line and get consistently great tone. Any beat it, even for twice the price!

Great amp. Awesome sound. Excellent quality. Great customer service at Sweetwater and at GK. Lighter than my old ampeg was and just as loud. I dont know why i would need the higher watt models this one is extremely loud. Lots of tone and killer D.I. sound.
