Excellent speakers; excellent service
I bought this set in fall, 2009, and since then it has been perfect for my home studio--they let me hear everything I'm physically capable of hearing, and the bass from that little subwoofer is enough not to fool me when I move to bigger speakers for performance.
The connectivity is also nice. All the inputs go into the subwoofer and get mixed together; I think I have three different sound sources going into it at the moment (my USB audio interface, the computer's native sound card, and a synth module). There's a nice separate volume control that can be placed several feet away, so I can turn down the audio when I don't want to disturb my wife.
But what really impressed me was this: After nearly four years, one channel became hissy. So I checked with Genelec; there's a four-year warranty. I bundled up the speaker and sent it off to Massachusetts on Monday. I didn't spring for overnight shipment, so they didn't gett it until Wednesday. On Thursday I got a phone call saying "We couldn't reproduce the problem." I said "Well, the amount of noise varies from time to time; is there a likely culprit you can replace as a precautionary measure?" Anwer: "Sure, all the electronics are on one board; we'll swap that one out."
The speaker was on its way back to me Friday and arrived on Saturday (FedEx Ground delivers on Saturdays but not Mondays). Dead silent. Problem solved.
No electronic product is perfect all the time, so it matters how a company deals with problems after the fact. From this experience, I can recommend them without reservation despite the problem.
Plus the subwoofer makes a nifty foot rest.
