Cedar and mahogany are a singer-songwriter's dream come true

If you want an acoustic guitar that takes a mild touch and provides a smooth and mellow tone, the Taylor 512ce 12-fret is it! The combination of a slightly dark mahogany body with a lyrically warm cedar top has been a combination of tonewoods favored by singer-songwriters throughout history. But you don't have to be a solo performer to fall in love with the 512ce 12-fret's tone - its also a great for accompanying another guitarist playing a spruce-topped guitar.

Super-comfortable Grand Concert body style provides excellent tonal balance

Arguably Taylor's most comfortable body style, the 512ce 12-fret's smaller than average Grand Concert shape is the perfect fit for anyone looking for a more manageable instrument. At Sweetwater, we've found that the 512ce 12-fret makes a particularly good fit if you're a fingerstylest or if you have shorter arms.

Taylor Expression System 2 electronics deliver a natural amplified sound

If you play plugged in, then you're going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into the 512ce 12-fret. The key to this fantastic system is the 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the saddle. Because of where it's positioned and how it's integrated into the 512ce 12-fret's saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls let you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet phase switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression.

Taylor 512ce 12-fret Grand Concert 6-string Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Cedar and tropical mahogany provide a smooth tone with warm undertones
  • Smaller than average Grand Concert body cutaway style is extremely comfortable
  • Neck joined to the body at the 12th fret for "modern-vintage" voice
  • Performance Bracing yields a rich, vibrant voice
  • Ebony fingerboard provides phenomenal comfort and playability
  • Grained ivoroid Century fretboard inlays creates an eye-catching appearance
  • Taylor Expression System 2 electronics deliver a natural amplified sound

Great Fingerstyle guitar

Recent purchase of the 512CE 12 fret arrived with a significant amount of expectations on my part. The guitar is highly responsive to a very light attack and produces a warm tone that's very balanced. This is a great guitar. Construction, fit and finish and set-up are perfect as you'd expect. The Sweetwater experience was fantastic as always.

Finger style perfection

Currently own a handful of Taylor and Martin guitars (814ce, 322, 314, 000-15M, HD-28) and now this 512CE 12-fret. Each guitar has its uses and in many regards it is not far to compare them to each other for they each have unique voices and offer sonic variety. But this guitar stands out all alone as the premier finger style guitar. Playing this guitar is almost effortless and is highly responsive to the touch. The voice is full, rich and mellow and what is surprising is how the notes bloom as they decay. The sustain is pleasing yet not so over the top that notes bleed over into the next. For a small bodied guitar the bass is impressive and overall is very well balanced across the spectrum of low to high end notes and the mid-range is nothing less than stunning. Plugged in the ES2 system is amazing even when using the rather low end acoustic amp I have and with very little effort sounds exactly the same as when unplugged. Andy Powers and Taylor guitars have knocked the ball out of the park on this one. If you play fingerstyle get this one and if you do you will not let it go, I know this one has found its forever home with me.
