Picks are important

One person may spend thousands of dollars on guitars (I have a Tony Rice Bourgeois and a Sweetwater Edition HD28 among others) to try and find the perfect tone but they may try only a few guitar picks. I had always played .70mm medium picks and had tried many different brands. However, I decided to try a pick showdown with probably about 3 dozen different brands of picks of all shapes, thickness and sizes that I had collected over the years. I settled on five finalists, tow Heavy and Three medium weight, and came down to this Gator Grip .96 and a Cool 1.0 as the two finalists. It was very close between these two and I would suggest you try both because they have subtle differences in feel and tone. The Gator has a little more of a mellow tone but may be a little harder to hold on to for many guitarists compared to the Cool. I can lick my index finger and thumb and the Gator gets a lot more "grippy" so it wasn't an issue for me. However, it isn't any harder to hold on to than a standard Fender pick. Just a little slicker than the Cool which has a grip enhanced surface. The Cool Pick is a little stickier. Finally, I was surprised that I was able to play with the same speed with a thicker pick because I play a lot of fast rhythm. I was actually a little faster on both picking and strumming with the Dunlop Gator Grip .96mm. It seemed to slip off the strings a little better than my medium weight picks and had a more clear bell like tone. Picks are one of the accessories most affected by personal tastes and they are cheap enough you can try a lot of different ones. This is one to definitely try.

Great Picks!

I love these picks! I had been using Gibson Heavy, ran out, then couldn't find them anymore. I tried a different brand first, and found the pick to be too long - the tip of the pick was too deep based on my grip, and was hitting the pickups. The problem is, as a result, the pick was "rotating" in my fingers, and I kept having to adjust the pick. But not with these picks! They are the perfect size, don't hit the pickups, and the texture/feel is very nice. I bought more just to have plenty of extras in my gig bag. I would recommend this brand of picks to anyone - great feel, perfect size, and plenty of gauges to choose from.
