Nylon-string Taylor with the Tone of Rosewood

Taylor's 414ce-NR acoustic-electric guitar exudes a warm tone with the natural roundness of nylon strings. You'll quickly take to the combination of a solid Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides for its balance of full lows and detailed character. Your performances will sound as if recorded in a studio due to the onboard Taylor Expression System-N electronics. And the 414ce-NR's Grand Auditorium body style perfectly complements the selection of tonewoods, adding powerful projection and a slight bump in the high end.

Taylor 414ce-NR Acoustic-electric Nylon-string Guitar at a Glance:
  • Solid Sitka spruce and Indian Rosewood
  • Grand Auditorium body
  • Taylor Expression System-N electronics
Solid Sitka spruce and Indian Rosewood

One of the leading reasons behind Taylor's signature voice is the use of high-quality tonewoods. The 414ce-NR is a prime example, featuring time-proven Sitka spruce as its top - which gives you projection - while its body is comprised of solid Indian rosewood. Indian rosewood boasts a striking dark-brown coloration and varied grain and offers a response that is harmonically rich throughout the frequency spectrum. The Taylor 414ce-NR also features a Tropical American mahogany neck, which is lined with a smooth-playing ebony fingerboard.

Grand Auditorium body

Taylor's beloved Grand Auditorium body style, featured on the 414ce-NR, employs the width and depth of the dreadnought. But its waist is narrower, which gives Grand Auditorium-bodied acoustic guitars a sleeker look with more treble detail. The 414ce-NR's Grand Auditorium body style also helps to sharpen the definition of each note. From fingerpicking to medium strumming, the Grand Auditorium is a great body choice for nearly every nylon-string playing style.

Taylor Expression System-N electronics

Designed to capture every nuance of your playing style, the Taylor 414ce-NR's ES-N electronics were built from the ground up for Taylor's nylon-string guitars. It faithfully reproduces your 414ce-NR's acoustic sound with a single-source, under-saddle transducer and a special preamplifier. And carving out your live tone is simple thanks to the three low-profile control knobs for volume, bass, and treble, allowing you to adapt your tone to any venue.

Taylor 414ce-NR Acoustic-electric Nylon-string Guitar Features:
  • A nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar with a strong voice and excellent projection
  • Grand Auditorium body balances projection with an expressive upper register
  • Sitka spruce top provides a light and expressive sound
  • Indian rosewood back and sides enhance richness and projection
  • All-gloss finish on the top, back, and sides
  • Onboard Taylor ES-N electronics give you natural sound even when plugged in live
The 414ce-NR boasts top-quality tonewoods for top-quality tone.

Undoubtedly, this is the VERY BEST Nylon string guitar I've EVER played! Even when using a light-touch picking with the fingers, the RICH sound that emanates from this guitar thrills me to the bone! I, myself, have been playing it mostly without the amp, however, with the amp, I have gotten the same great sound, only louder, with a very accurate reproduction of the unplugged sound. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this guitar for anyone who is on the prowl for a TOP QUALITY Nylon string guitar! I must, as I've mentioned in all of my Sweetwater purchase reviews, give the HIGHEST PRAISE possible to my Sales Engineer, MIKE SOPER! There isn't ANYTHING that this great guy wouldn't do for you to provide you with the guitar, amp, etc., that will best suit your needs! His incredible knowledge of Sweetwater's products never ceases to amaze me! But wait....there's more! He will spend as much time with you on the phone that you need for you to fully understand what you'll be getting & how it works! Mike is also the MOST PATIENT & FRIENDLY guy you'll ever work with! I am speaking from much experience, given my own personal business relarionship with Mike since 2014---as I have bought many different types of guitars, etc., from Mike between then and now. Besides all of the above info. that I've given you, Mike is TRULY CONCERNED about "service AFTER the sale", which has practically become an extinct species among so many guitar salesmen outside the sacred walls of Sweetwater, but you need not worry about MIKE SOPER, nor any of the other people at Sweetwater, for that matter! Sweetwater practices "old-time" morals & ethics, which have, unfortunately, vanished from most business establishments. As for me, I wouldn't even think of buying my guitars, accessories, etc. from anywhere but Sweetwater! THANKS AGAIN, Mike, along with the rest of the Sweetwater staff, & the INCREDIBLE Guitar Tech & Repair Department! You are ALL CHAMPS!

First Taylor

I received my Taylor 414ce-nr a few weeks back. I've owned many guitars over the years and I'm very familiar with lots of brands. I have to say that Taylor lives up to their reputation. They do try to give the most bang for the buck. (Although this guitar is in the upper price range.) On inspection of my new guitar, I was very pleased with the craftsmanship and the quality of this guitar. The tone and play-ability has been all that I expected. The spruce top with rosewood back and sides (both solid hardwood) gives a rich and slightly mellow tone with the nylon strings. I play early 20th century blues and it's just the sound I was looking for. The 14th body fret and cutaway makes it easy to play the upper registers. For a brighter tone I would suggest a steel string version. I would give 5 Stars had it not been for the plastic neck and body binding. I don't feel it hurts the tone, I just think for the price Taylor could offer better (personal opinion). I would recommend this guitar for someone looking for a solid wood instrument. ((Very Pleased) and Sweetwater did a great job getting it to me quickly).
