408... everything the hype says it is...
Expensive? Maybe... Worth it? Oh YEAH! This guitar was a gift from my wife for my 50th birthday. Until now I have played Strats, Epi Les Pauls, a Hagstrom Viking and a Tele. This 408 covers just about all those sounds only BETTER. The clarity and note definition is just amazing. Let's be real... if you want Strat "squawk" or Tele "spank" you need one of those guitars. The 408 comes amazingly close but in a (IMO) better way. I am actually thinking about selling all my other guitars and getting a P22 or a Hollowbody II. I like the versatility of the added piezo.
If you need a fantastic sounding guitar to cover a TON of tones... the 408 is a must-have. No volume drop when going single-coil, clarity and definition that is unreal... and quality? You could pay more and get LESS... why? Do yourself a favor, audition a 408.
Mine arrived beautifully setup and shining like a new penny. Sweetwater treated my wife just great. When the guitar wasn't going to arrive in time for my birthday, (she didn't realize they were made when ordered) the sales engineer was super nice and explained everything. So I had to wait a few more days... pfffft! No problem... the guy sent pictures Sweetwater took in their studio after their inspection and before shipping. I had something to salivate over while waiting for the big brown truck. Nice!!
I am a PRS fan now. Yeah they are a few bucks more than a run of the mill Epi, Mexi Strat or Indorean guitar. I am not knocking those by the way, the bang for buck factor is amazing compared to when I was a kid... The thing is... the PRS is WORTH IT. Bottom line... I'm happy.
