Solid mahogany topped with maple looks and sounds amazing

To give the 408 Maple Top a rich yet balanced sound, PRS began by choosing the tried-and-true combination of mahogany topped with a select figured maple top. The 408 Maple Top's mahogany body gives you natural tonal warmth, which is offset perfectly by the brighter tone of its maple top. Together, these tonewoods give you an incredibly balanced sound.

Custom-wound 408 pickups and switching provide endless tone

When PRS released their Signature Limited model, everyone at Sweetwater who got a chance to check out the new 408 pickups was absolutely blown away. But, true to his perfectionist nature, Paul Reed Smith continued to tweak these 100% proprietary pickups to perfection. In fact, he discovered that by tightening up the pickup field on a 408 bass pickup, he was actually able to create an even better-sounding treble pickup. The PRS 408 Maple Top electric guitar features a pair of these amazing 408 pickups. But it doesn't stop there. These amazing pickups also have dedicated mini-switches, so you can shift to the timeless single-coil sound instantaneously. Best of all, there is no volume loss when switching to single-coil mode!

PRS V12 finish feels like nitro and protects like acrylic

The PRS 408 Maple Top is finished in a stunning PRS V12 finish. If you're seeking a vintage vibe with a sophisticated edge, then your search ends here. Over a decade in the making, the PRS V12 finish blends the thin, resonance-enhancing characteristics of a nitro finish with the non-cracking reliability you expect from a modern acrylic finish. It has a classic feel all its own that makes your axe feel like a well-worn instrument. One that will stay flawless-looking for years to come.

PRS 408 Maple Top Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • Production version of the PRS Signature Limited
  • Custom 408 pickups with single-coil/humbucking switches
  • Classic mahogany body/maple top tone
  • Mahogany neck with Pattern neck carve

Blown Away

I have been looking at PRS Guitars with intention to buy for probably 2 plus years now and narrowed my choice's down to either a Custom 24, a 408 or a Paul's Guitar. I really wanted a 24 fret version of Paul's Guitar with a Piezo however that would be a custom build and I just don't have that kind of money. I finally decided on a Black Gold Burst 408 in Quilt so now just waiting until one came into inventory that I liked. One day while dreaming as I was looking through Sweetwater's inventory I saw a 408 Black Gold Burst come across labeled as a "demo" it wasn't Quilt and it had a small ding by one of the pickups and was discounted $300. So I quickly pulled the trigger and placed my order then called Kent Sallaz my sales Tech to see if it was still available. Kent said it was mine but I had one more request.., while completing the 55 point evaluation/setup could a set of 9's be put on rather than the usual 10's. Kent's response was "no problem" (who else would do this?) When I received my 408 I was blown away, I could hardly find the little ding that caused it to be classified as a "demo", the setup was perfect and it was in perfect tune! My 408 is magnificent! I love the tone's produced by the new 408 pickups, the mini-toggle coil splitters are much more practical than the push pull pots and when PRS advertises that there is no volume drop when you split the coils they live up to their word with this guitar. The tone options are amazing, exactly what I was looking for this new 408 has become my go to guitar leaving my Les Paul and Strat feeling a bit neglected. The purchase process was very effortless, Kent made sure that all my requests were fulfilled 100% to my liking making the process without stress. Thank you Kent and Sweetwater for being such a complete Customer satisfaction oriented company with the best products any musician could ask for.
