Grand Auditorium body style delivers exceptional high-end response

Taylor's beloved Grand Auditorium body style, featured on this 314ce acoustic-electric guitar, employs the width and depth of the dreadnought. That being said, its waist is narrower, which gives Grand-Auditorium-bodied acoustic guitars a sleeker look, with remarkable high-end response. The body style also helps to sharpen the definition of each note. Ultimately, from fingerpicking to medium strumming, the Grand Auditorium is a great choice for nearly every playing style.

Sitka spruce and Sapele provide balanced warmth and sparkle

This 314ce acoustic-electric guitar is a prime example of the high-quality tonewoods Taylor selects for their guitars. It features time-proven Sitka spruce as its top, which gives you wonderful projection with the perfect amount of sparkle. This acoustic-electric guitar's Sapele back and sides also give it a warm and mellow quality, similar to that of mahogany, providing it with a well-balanced tone. Additionally, a satin finish with a gloss top offers protection, good looks, and a smooth feel to the touch.

Taylor Expression System 2 electronics deliver a natural amplified sound

If you play plugged in, then you're going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into this 314ce acoustic-electric guitar. The key to this fantastic system is the 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the saddle. Because of where it's positioned and how it's integrated into this 314ce's saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls let you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet phase switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression.

  • Sitka spruce and Sapele provide balanced warmth and sparkle

Almost Really Good

I have played an ovation for 15 years and bought the Taylor 314ce for an "all wood" sound. Unplugged it sounds warm with just enough brightness that even the deep notes have definition. The disappointment came when I plugged it in. I had great expectations for the pick-up system, but unfortunately I couldn't push the gain high enough to cut through the mix without a terrible buzz coming from the pick-ups. I have tried everything from different amps, sound boards, DI boxes, different brand batteries, changing EQ levels, ground plugs on all my equipment, etc. I took it to a certified Taylor repair shop in Seattle. They thought it was a fuse, but upon investigation couldn't find anything wrong. It still buzzes. . .Maybe mine is just a 'lemon' and most Taylor's are great, I can't be certain, I haven't tried another one. My Ovation pick-ups blow this thing away and is almost a quarter of the price. I can only give it a 2.5 rating since it is "good" sounding unplugged, if the pick-ups were clear then it might be "really good".
