Exactly as expected

By Allan Kennedy on April 25, 2022

Nicely priced. Holds my Fender Jazz bass perfectly. Seems like it will protect the instrument well. Probably will try really hard to keep it from getting rained or snowed on.

Perfect!

By TStarnes from TN on January 31, 2021 Music Background: Retired 30 year pro touring turned weekend warrior

I bought this for an American P-bass I've been carrying in a tweed hard case. Not only does it fit perfectly but I feel my bass is protected much better in this one. The cut fits great and the bass can't move. Lots more padding than I expected. Plus with the storage box under the neck inside and the pockets outside there is room for all my extras! It's hard shell protection with the convenience of a comfortable back pack gig bag!!;

fits my 44-64 Lakland bass perfectly!

By Cody Friebohle from BEMIDJI, MN on December 3, 2020

Very handy case, plenty of storage space and backpack straps for easy carrying

Great case

By Cole from Kentucky on November 9, 2020 Music Background: Bass player

I had a gig bag before I got this case but when the zipper broke on it it was time for something new, I liked the convenience of a gig bag but wanted something with more protection for my bass so I thought I would try this out. Right off the bat I was very pleased at the quality of this case, nice stitching, heavy duty zipper, plenty of padding and it's fits my jazz bass perfect. The backpack straps are also good quality and remind me of actually backpack straps unlike most gig bag that have the uncomfortable straps that big into your shoulders. Very pleased with this case and would recommend it to anyone that wants the protection of a hard case but the portability of a gig bag.

Good Build

By Alex on October 28, 2020

So far the case seems great, I like that it's not a "gig bag" but a soft case, looks and feels well built, when I place my bass inside it doesn't shake around

Astounding customer service

Great Case-Not the Greatest for Ibanez SR

By Brad from Oklahoma on May 18, 2020 Music Background: 30-Year Amateur

The build of the case is fantastic. The outside is rigid and protects the instrument well. The Ibanez SR bodies are slightly smaller and much thinner than most basses, so there is movement in the case when it is open. When closed, however, enough pressure is placed on the neck and body to hold it secure.

"Soft case" may be a misnomer

By Kimbol Stroud from Ohio on December 5, 2019 Music Background: Guitar and Bass Hobbyist, player 50 years

This case is advertised as a "soft case", like a regular gig bag. But this case is built like a hard-shell, heavy-duty, travel-worthy, protective case that fits P or J bass styles like a glove. The quality is is excellent and the value is great. Thanks to my tech Chris for giving me his recommendation.

Not just a gig bag

By Michael from Detroit on May 15, 2019 Music Background: Bassist over 40yrs experience

This is between a gig bag and a case. If you want a gig bag think again. This case is light weight and has extra space for gear inside and out way better than any gig bag out there.

Perfect Bass case

By John from Pennsylvania on April 24, 2019 Music Background: None

The case for my son's bass worked out perfectly. I researched many options and the one takes the prize. It is light yet very sturdy and the interior padding and storage is well thought out. He packs it once a week to take to his lesson. My son is 11 years old so weight and durability was a big factor. We can't thank you enough not only for the service but expedient delivery as well.

Travel lite and protected

By Arthur on March 27, 2019

I have 5 branded semi-hard case gig bags- this gig bag is my favorite.
I am using a 4" bass guitar strap - I just hope they had the upper pocket wider for it - it still fits though.
Contents:
1 xlr
1 inst cable
spare strings set
clip on tuner
small bag of tool kit and batteries
a di box + 1 standard size pedal.
+ sandwich =P

I will try to put designed iron-in patches on it.

Great case....Great price

By War from TEXAS on June 13, 2017

Love the way my 5-string Fender p bass fits nicely in place. I really like the interior and the exterior as well. Its a gig bag with the protection of a hard case.

Hard case protection in a bag format

By Ron from California on October 8, 2015 Music Background: Been doing this a long time

SKB basically took the interior mold from their hard case and put it in a gig bag, it's nice compromise, more protection than a standard gig bag with the hand-freeing benefit of shoulder straps. Fender P or J basses fit pretty snug.

LOVE IT!

Excellent choice for money, durability and lightweight!

Love this thang!

By Carl Maultsby from Riverview, FL USA on November 19, 2012 Music Background: Pro Muaician

I'm totally digging my gig bag. It's all that was expecting, and that is something you don't find much these days. I have 2 more basses that I built that could fit into these bags. Not just any bag will do, but these will cut the mustard. Thanks, I'll get back ya.

Five Years

By Fred C from Ionia on November 13, 2021 Music Background: Experienced novice

I've had this case for a while now. Still works great and fits everything I've put in it. A few minor things. Case will not stand on its side, just something made wrong I guess. The netting on the front pocket has torn. Other than that no issues really. I use it every Sunday and every other Thursday to transport my P bass or Jazz bass and I have had other models in it also. Plenty of storage and easy to carry. Backpack straps work well once you knot the ends so that they won't pull through the buckles. I would buy another one!

Great Compromize

By Peter Mc Ardle from Malone NY on November 12, 2018 Music Background: Weekend warrior. Been playing Bass and guitar for 50+ years

Not a gig bag nor a hard case, but somewhere in between. Case is very sturdy. Has a heafty zipper for closure, two outside pockets for extras, one inside the case. Enough room for extra strings, guitar cable and other items like towels and cleaners. The shoulder straps make it easy to carry on your back to free hands for other items. The suitcase handles are a plus. My Squire P/J bass fits nicely and the neck support is great. Best use is for car to stage, would not recommend for handling on air flights. Would recommend for use.

Great case for on the go!

By Sweetwater Customer on June 27, 2018 Music Background: 30+ years as performing musician

Great case for on the go. Not bulky. My jazz fits perfectly and it's not a bulky case like other bass cases i've had over the years.
Patrick at Sweetwater again gave me a great price. He rocks!

Nice Case!

By FastElder from Baltimore on May 2, 2016 Music Background: Worship Team

I bought a P-Bass for my daughter Years ago, as she wanted to learn. It never whent anywhere, so she gave it back and I kept it in my arsenal. I'm a guitar player normally, but recently had to fill in on bass. I really hate the suitcase style cases, as they constantly fall over. This is as good as a hard shell case. The foam is a high-density material that cradles the bass very well. It's solid, light, and very tight. Kudos for all the pockets and storage. There's storage under the neck, storage outside for a pedal or two, another pocket with multiple slots for stuff and a web pocket on top of that, If you need more storage than that, you need more than a case.

My only gripe, is the case is so form fitting, I have trouble fitting my strap in there. I generally don't like to take it off, but if you do, it fits nice and as I said, there's plenty of places to store it

SKB Fender Jazz case Rocks!

By Coalsmith from United States on January 7, 2013 Music Background: professional bassist for 40 years

Wonderful protective device for my 1966 Fender Jazz. Tossing it in the car to get to the gig, or stumbling out of the club at 2am, this case will keep your baby safe and sound. Great pockets on front and top hold all my cables, tuner, and sheet music. The backpack straps help me get it through a narrow door while pulling a cart with an amp in tow. Onlly complaint is the balance - it will lay flat on the side, but won't lean up against a wall very well, tends to fall over. But that is just a way of telling me it doesn't need to be stood up and leaned against a wall anyway! So get you one if you need super strong protection for your best girlfriend bass and keep her safe!

I AGREE WITH DAVE! A few design flaws...

By Cheryl Dolan from Franktown, CO on July 8, 2021

I use this case for a Fender Jazz Bass, a Bunny Brunel ESP and an Ibanez SDGR which all fit perfectly. I've had the case for only a FEW years. In most respects it's a nice case, BUT:

(mostly copied from Dave's review)
1. If you try to place the case on its edge, it falls over onto the front (top) side. The plastic "feet" on the bottom edge of the case look nice but are in fact curved and won't hold the case level. It's a design flaw.

2. There are 2 metal hinges (you can't see them) that are screwed into foam. There's no reinforcement material. On my case, the hinge at the wide (body) part of the case stripped out and the hinge can't be repaired. The case still works, - but it's another design flaw and quite irritating since the case still looks relatively new!

SKB Case

Nice case- pockets are in right places- secure

a hard soft case

By Sweetwater Customer from United States on March 26, 2013 Music Background: semi-pro musician

Great case, fits my fender p almost perfectly...not so much for my lakland decade.
Serious upgrade in protection from my road runner gig bag.

It could use a handle on the front of it, and slightly bigger pockets, other than that,, it is built very beefy and I feel very safe with my bass in it.

Good case

By Sweetwater Customer on November 16, 2022

Excellent case with regards to protection, fit, build quality, storage compartments. My only gripe is that it's unbalanced so flops over to the front if you try sitting it down on ground horizontally.

Almost perfect

By Sweetwater Customer on December 8, 2015

Just received the case. Really nice look and conceptually a great thing. The bass fits snug and well protected. My only issue is the zipper action. It feels as if it's going to break or get permanently stuck any second. Maybe it needs a bit of working it a few times but I was disappointed because other than that it's a great solution for the price.

Nice case, but 2 issues...

By Dave on May 10, 2021

I use this case for a Fender Precision Bass, which fits perfectly. I've had the case for several years. In most respects it's a nice case, BUT:

The case still works, sort of - the nylon holds together - but it's another design flaw.

Missed it by that much...

By Carl H from New Hampshire on August 22, 2019 Music Background: 40 years

The case looked good but it was at least an inch or two short on the head stock end and would compromise the D tuning key on a five string jazz elite. Otherwise I would have kept it.
I swapped it for the Gator GTRBASSGRY which was a perfect fit, a pound lighter, and had more storage. Working with Sweetwater has always been a pleasure.

Nice Case ...For a While

By Larry Walter from Las Vegas, NV on December 14, 2022

I bought this case for a bass I bought that had none; I liked it a lot and began using for the bass I carried to gigs and rehearsals. It protects the bass pretty well and has a decent amount of extra storage. Fast forward 3-the screws have popped out of the foam at the back of the case and the zipper no longer lines up. Plus the screws, which you can't remove, are now digging into case, very close to my prized bass! I honestly expected more from an SKB case. I certainly will never buy another SKB product.

Disappointingly low quality construction, not viable for touring musicians.

By Anthony D from Southeast USA on May 25, 2021 Music Background: touring bassist, producer, engineer

I'm someone who takes good care of his stuff and is fairly delicate with loading and unloading, but I went through two of these in under a year. The case itself is a nice design - good amount of pockets and storage, and will protect your instrument well.

The construction is where it falls short - the backpack straps do not have enough stitching to remain attached, and just through the process of lifting it up onto your shoulders will fail in mere months (the stitching will start to show wear in just a few weeks, even). So that leaves you with just one backpack strap, which will fail even faster because it now supports all the weight of the case (pictured).

The small strap presumably designed specifically for lifting failed in the same way (pictured).

The external material will wear very quickly as well, eventually showing through to the styrofoam. There is also some hardware holding the lid to the base that will eventually become detached, exposing the pointy end of some screws and leaving the fabric as the only thing holding the case together.

If you're someone who gigs just a few times a month in your own town, or someone who doesn't gig at all but needs something to transport an instrument on vacation or to store it at home, then this case might be fine. It is 100% not made to stand up to the rigors of regular touring though. My tour schedule when these failed was not particularly ambitious - 3 or 4 shows a week then back home and this case couldn't handle that, which is very disappointing for a case at this price point.
