The Peavey 16FX is absolutely one of my favorite small mixers. It is easily rackmountable in most racks, and it has enough I/O for most bands. Plenty of aux sends and monitor control, excellent EQ functions, great preamps, and to top it off, incredible built-in effects with digital control and my favorite feature, mp3 recording! You can easily record a stereo mix onto a thumbdrive for instance and take that back to your computer to load it up and burn CDs of the night's performance. If that's not the perfect solution for the way bands and artists are working today then I don't know what is!
Can't beat the price!
Bought this board after receiving a recommendation from a friend who had one. I had been shopping for a new mixer for awhile, but hadn't even considered this.
It does everything I need. 4 monitor mixes, USB recording, great FX. Was able to consolidate a huge outboard rack into just this. Awesome!
The one feature that really blew me away was the Feedback Ferret. You turn it on, starting turning up the volume, and the board automatically notches out that frequency that starts to feedback. Once you're done, pull the level back down and you have a tremendous amount of headroom. Best of all you can save the setting, and bring it back up when you're in that room again.
My only 2 complaints (one not really a complaint, but an observation) are: The built in compressor is a bit noisy. When you first plug it in, it's setup pretty aggressively and I almost returned it thinking it was a a noisy piece of junk. Found out shortly there after, just have to turn down the compressor. The other, is that all of the knobs and fader handles are kinda cheap. They do what they're supposed to, and none have broken yet, but they don't look or feel as nice as say an Allen & Heath, but hey, gotta save money somewhere :)
