The 1642VLZ4 also boasts better-than-ever RF rejection for prime performance in broadcast situations. Premium-quality mixer with proven components

The Mackie 1642VLZ4 is, first and foremost, a Mackie mixer. It houses 10 of Mackie's premium-quality Onyx mic preamps for natural, transparent sound. Its first eight mic/line channels are equipped with 3-band EQ with sweepable mids (non-sweepable on the last four channels). Signal routing is easy and flexible. On top of all that, the Mackie 1642VLZ4 is built Mackie-tough - trust this mixer to perform even in the most harrowing situations.

Sealed rotary controls ensure long-term reliability

Sure, the Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer will shrug off bumps, drops, and outright abuse, but what about spills or rain? Thankfully, the 1642VLZ4 boasts sealed rotary controls that resist grime, dust, and anything else that may spill onto your mixer. We're not saying it's fully waterproof, but it's an extra level of protection you'll eventually be very glad you have when you're running live sound in a hectic environment.

Incredible sound quality

VLZ stands for "very low noise", and that's just part of the appeal of the Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer. In all you've got a 128.5dB dynamic range, making it easy to achieve full, punchy mixes. The Onyx mic preamps have a 60dB gain range, so you can get the best out of virtually any microphone. And because the 1642VLZ4's line inputs handle +22 dBu signal levels, you can connect high-output sound sources without worrying about distorting your inputs.

Mackie 1642VLZ4 16-channel Mixer Features:
  • Amazingly rugged analog mixer with 10 microphone preamplifiers
  • Onyx mic preamps offer up to 60dB of gain for great performance with any mic
  • Ultra-low-noise performance gives you clean, clear sound
  • High-resolution stereo meters give you fast, easy visual indication of your signal levels
  • Sealed rotary controls resist dust and grime
  • Four-bus design and intuitive routing make it easy to create submixes for easier, faster mixing

Clean and glorious

I have been using a quality mixer which I won't mention here and liked it very much but it just didn't have enough aux capabilities so I decided to look for another mixing unit. Our church has used a Mackie for almost 25 years with no problems and it always sounded so clean so I thought I would start investigating the latest Mackie line. After about 3 months of researching various mixers I decided on the Mackie 1642VLZ4. I couldn't be happier. The Onyx preamps are so clean and offer great quality. With 4 Aux's per channel it met all my requirements. I accidentally tested the ruggedness of this unit by setting it on a music stand with out tightening the top screw. The unit fell off and landed right on it's face. I thought Oh no, I've done it! I tested every channel and every thing works perfectly. Didn't even damage the knobs. I recently did a show in an old school gym where no one could produce a good sound. When we left that night the sponsor said that was the best sound ever produced in that venue. I believe it had much to do with the Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer. Jeff Law as always was great to work with in purchasing this unit. I would recommend this unit for live sound!

CLEAN MIX

I needed a low-noise mixer for live sound and multi-track recording. I need RELIABILITY. I do not need effects or computer connectivity. This Mackie provides direct outputs which I route to my recording interface so I keep the digital recording interface in a separate box. The 4 aux-outs provide great control for monitor speakers. The LOW NOISE pre-amps are so durable and quiet you do not even know they are there. As it SHOULD be. No mystery hum. No buzz. No nuthin'. Just what you route to the inputs. If you hear noise, it's coming from somewhere else! Try looking at your pedals, but it's not coming from the Mackie. I really like the LACK OF features I do not want. What good is a USB connection if you cant use it for multi-track recording and zero latency over-dubbing? Who uses the on-board effects anyway? All musicians I know bring their sound with them. They just want the mixer to MIX. There are less expensive mixers, but I've been through several of them. I rack-mount my Mackie and am so glad they fit all this so nicely in a 19" rack. Not huge, not tiny. It's a bulls-eye for my needs. My Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Robby, helped assure the direct outs were positioned in the channel strip where I needed them. He looked it up with such ease, I knew he had great knowledge and great data at-hand. What a FUN buying experience! I doubt I could receive better technical service if I was buying a $1M studio! I was treated like I was Robbie's most important customer. This mixer is precisely what I needed and it was FUN to buy!

Mackie rules and so does Sweetwater

This is the second 1642 I've owned. Been a Mackie owner and user of their fine products since the early 90's. This new model offers a better class of Onyx preamp - clean quiet and loads of headroom. Otherwise it's mostly a direct clone of the previous models with some cosmetic changes. The overall footprint is a teensy bit smaller than before. They removed the scribble strip area at the bottom of the fader channels which I already miss. I'm not a huge fan of the new redesigned plastic fader knobs (they are smaller than before) but that's a subjective call. It sounds great and has the same Mackie tank-like feel. Should provide years of excellent service. I recommend it! Have also say Sweetwater continues to impress. I had the board in my hands 24 hours after placing the order. The sales staff (hi Jeff!) is the best in the world. Best wishes to everyone at Sweetwater and much success to you in 2016!

winner

From the first Mackies to the now, the sound has really warmed up. These preamps are great, VLZ really means VLZ. This mixer is a keeper. Wish they made a 1242.

Great Board for Live Mixing and Recording

there is no denying it, Mackie is the perfect middle of the road board. Affordable, durable, and flexible. I'm glad I went with the VLZ4 instead of the proFX or the DL series. For a little extra money I got nice, clean preamps, 4 aux sends end for subgroup abilities, as well as direct out, stereo returns, send smooth pod and fader movement. Makes this great board for mixing live or recording. The one thing I am missing from profx it's the onboard effects, but using separate rack or digital in-the-box effects is a breeze with all of these sends and returns.
