A Very Affordable Taylor

With Taylor's ES2 electronics, the 114e is a complete package that's ready to perform. Sporting a solid spruce top, it's big on quality and tone. The 114e defies the logic of most starter guitars by providing a really great-sounding instrument that is extremely well built. Layered sapele back and sides and a solid spruce top make for crisp and well-defined sound in this versatile mid-priced guitar. If you're in need of stellar Taylor tone, but can't swing the price on the higher-end models, the 114e is certainly well worth a look.

Taylor 114e at a Glance:
  • Grand Auditorium body style
  • Taylor's Expression System 2 delivers incredibly natural sound with full dynamics
  • Exotic tonewoods
Grand Auditorium body style

Taylor's Grand Auditorium combines the width and depth of a dreadnought with a narrower waist. Its sleek design yields a strong treble zing across the tonal spectrum and sharpens the definition of individual notes. The Grand Auditorium is a strong fingerpicking guitar that also adapts well to medium strumming.

Taylor's Expression System 2 delivers incredibly natural sound with full dynamics

Traditionally, acoustic-electric guitars have employed under-saddle piezo transducers, but Taylor goes about it a bit differently. Their Expression System 2 uses a proprietary pickup behind the saddle. The pickup's three individually calibrated, precisely positioned piezo-electric sensors respond organically to the instrument's acoustic energy as it's transferred through the saddle. In concert with Taylor's custom-designed preamp (which delivers a 25% hotter signal), the result is a natural acoustic sound with incredible dynamic range and responsiveness to your pick or finger attack. Sweetwater's guitar gurus are mightily impressed with Taylor's Expression System 2. Whether you're onstage through a PA, plugged into an acoustic amp, or direct into recording software, the ES2 faithfully conveys the voice of a Taylor guitar.

Exotic tonewoods

The tonewoods chosen for the 114ce offer detailed tone, strong projection, and durability. The layered sapele back and sides offer a similarly warm tone to mahogany. But the layered construction helps the instrument remain stable under fluctuating climate changes and rough handling. The combination of mahogany and ebony on the neck ensures a ringing midrange with plenty of top-end detail. And the solid Sitka spruce top is one of the most popular wood choices for a powerful tone that is well balanced across the frequency range.

Taylor 114e Features:
  • 6-string Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar
  • Layered sapele back and sides
  • Sitka spruce top
  • American mahogany neck with ebony fretboard
  • Standard II bracing (forward shifted pattern w/ relief rout)
  • Taylor ES2 pickup system
Taylor 114e is a beauty of a guitar.

Nice Action, Great Pickup, Perfect Size

The ES2 pickup system has a very natural sound with a clean and hot output level. Taylors have some of the best pickup systems and I find that I can get a very natural sound with little or no eq. The body of the 114 (Grand Auditorium) is slightly smaller than the 110 (Dreadnought). We have one of each. Both have a full sound and a nicely balanced tone, but I prefer the size of the 114. Both of our Taylors have great action. Taylors seem to be very consistent with very little variation from instrument to instrument.

Wow! Just wow.

I have played mostly Dreadnought acoustics, J45's D28s, etc. I decided to get a taylor and planned on getting the gs mini. That is until I picked this one up to play it. It just feels right. The rounded edges on the neck. The smooth perfectly balanced action. Every part of this guitar is a WIN. This is my last acoustic.

Love my Taylor 114e, thanks Jason!

I finally received my Taylor 114e today! Shipped by Sweetwater and arrived when they said it would. It was boxed and packaged perfectly. The soft case was itself gorgeous but the Taylor? Fantastic! It was flawless... no scratches or dings and all it needed was a quick minor tune up! It feels right, it sounds crisp and deep at the same time and is light weight. I haven't purchased a new instrument in 42 years! My Salesperson Jason was patient and understanding, knowledgeable and helpful. He called me when it was in stock and assisted with the order. Sweetwater did an exceptional job and the customer service was exceptional. Thanks for taking care of this old school rocker!
