I bought a Fender American Standard strat with 3 single coil fat 50 pickups. The pickups sounded amazing, but they picked up electrical signals like crazy. I couldn't shut them up, the minute the drive got too thick or the compressor was even mentioned in the room, it sounded like a 300 lb hornet was coming out of my amp. I bought a noise gate and it helped tremendously (electro-harmonix, top notch stuff!) but being in a band that plays bars was more than the gate could handle (fluorescent lights, neon, etc.). So I ordered the noiseless pickups from Sweetwater, replaced the fat 50's, fired up the Marshall and cranked the distortion... talk about an eyebrow raising moment. I rolled the volume up on the strat and not a peep. I chugged through a few heavy chords, muted the strings and the sound stopped. These are literally quieter than the humbuckers in my Ibanez RG.
Important notes: no loss in tonal quality, pickups are hot but are right at home from twangy single tones to full body strat tones and produce some brilliant clean tones, clarity is phenomenal. Installation was easy, no crazy wiring required. Careful with internet wiring diagrams, I kept finding diagrams with the yellow wire pickup (which is the bridge pickup according to the fine folks at Fender) in the middle or neck position. I'm not sure that it would make a huge difference, but always go with the manufacturer advice when you can. The poles in the noiseless are all level and very clean where the fat 50's were uneven and very rough looking, I prefer the clean look. Silence is the word of the day, these things are an engineering marvel.
Last but not least, Sweetwater came through in fine style as always. Everyone knows Sweetwater's customer service is the best in the business. Order with total confidence.
