Martin & Co.'s rich acoustic history

There are only a precious few names that come to mind when thinking of the truly legendary steel-string flat-top acoustic guitar companies in history, and Martin is one of them. This 00-15E Retro comes from a very long line of instruments that came to life at the hands of craftsman that know what a great acoustic should be, with such innovations to their credit as the dreadnought body style, X-bracing, and joining the neck to the body at the 14th and 15th frets. The Martin 00-15E Retro takes it cues from the past, but is a modern masterpiece.

This was the first time I've purchased a guitar without playing it. I knew the features I wanted and this Martin appeared to cover all my requirements. My sales rep, Bart Amburn, explained the process to me, as well as my options if I wasn't fully satisfied. The guitar arrived in perfect shape. I had to wait a couple days because they had just received it from Martin and it had to be checked out before shipping. This guitar is outstanding. Its physical size makes it very comfortable to play and the neck, although slightly wider than I'm used to, is great for both flat picking and finger style and is very easy on my wrist and hand. The sound has character. The dynamics and resonance of this guitar are the best I've heard. However you want it to sound is up to you. I've had it about one month, and believe me when I say, it's difficult to put down. The F1 aura system is equally as good. The performance mode opens up all kinds of possibilities for recording and live sound. I'm presently working through the features for recording. For me, the action from the 5th fret up was a little high ( it was within the factory spec) and it was perfect at the first fret. After playing it for a week I ordered a tusq fully compensated saddle (same that was on the guitar) and fitted it for lower action; the result, same great sound just lower action and no fret buzzing even with drop D tuning. For me this was a pretty expensive purchase, but after 30 days I can still say "It was worth every penny."

00-15E Retro

I could give this guitar 5 stars based on the smell alone! There is nothing so sweet as the smell of a brand new mahogany Martin. But obviously there is so much more here. This guitar has some special features that set it apart from the rest of the 15 series. Like the ebony fingerboard and bridge, the burst finish, and of course, the Fishman Aura+ electronics. Unplugged it has a sweet balanced tone with a lot of sustain. Plugged in, it projects like a much larger guitar. The small 00 size and short scale make it the most comfortable acoustic guitar I have ever played. Once I pick it up, I never want to put it down. It’s a Martin. It’s from Sweetwater. You can’t go wrong!

An all-around winner...

Pulled the guitar out of its case and wow! I bought this to replace a stolen 00-DB Jeff Tweedy model and this guitar blew me away. From the fit and finish to the Aura onboard system, it really is the best all-around guitar I could buy. I am a career musician and this guitar will be with me forever. Side note: my friends raised the money for me to have this guitar, and I'm eternally humbled and grateful to them.

A lot of guitar for a little money

I own several guitars and wanted a really comfortable smaller bodied guitar for lounging around but also wanted the ability to plug in if I felt the urge. After seeing a couple of video reviews of the Martin 00-15e, I thought it might be exactly what I was looking for. Basically, I didn't want to spend money on a lot of appointments and unnecessary cosmetic features. My criteria was primarily great tone, comfort and a decent pickup system. The 00-15e really hit the mark. I really like the all mahogany solid wood top, sides and back. Unplugged, the tone is really full and articulate. I'm also surprised by the amount of really great sustain. Plugged in, the Fishman Aura F1+ pickup system is absolutely superb. The only issue for me was the guitar was not in stock when I ordered it but I was assured it would be arriving within a few weeks. Sure to their word, Sweetwater came through. My sales engineer, Kyle Malone gave me a call and let me know it had just arrived which was way sooner than I expected. I'm sure each engineer has many customers but I feel like Kyle's personal attention to detail made me feel like my order was his priority. I really feel Sweetwater is completely committed to it's customers and they want to make sure they do everything possible to ensure their customers are completely satisfied.

I absolutely love this guitar!

Everything about this guitar appeals to me. I love its size, its sound, its look, even the way it smells! I asked for Martin Retro strings to be installed before it was shipped (which they did for free, charging only for the strings themselves), and the combination of the mahogany, the short scale neck, and the nickel strings makes it a total joy to play and gives it such a beautiful, old-timey sound. Its tone is much warmer and more intimate than my Martin OMCPA4, which is one reason I wanted the 00-15. It's also much easier to play--especially for fingerpicking, thanks to the shorter neck and the nickel strings. In fact, I rarely play the 00-15 with a pick. In addition, the electronics are very easy to use and produce a beautiful rich tone through my Fishman Performer.
