Martin has hit a home run with these road series models. I initially set out to buy the 00015M, but this 000RS1 included the pickup that I needed and cost about half what the American version is going for. I didn't care where it is made as long as the quality was the there, and it is there! Not a flaw could be found inside or out. It's made in Mexico but it's indeed a real Martin!
Perfect neck angle on mine, and is the first new Martin I've purchased that was set-up to perfection and ready to play right out of the box.
The neck on mine is a solid one piece hardwood and has a soft V profile. I prefer it over the modified low oval neck profile that's on my Martin J-15. Both profiles are great playing necks, but the soft V has a little more heft to it and adds to the tone and sustain.
This is my first guitar with the Richlite fretboard and I love it. Looks and feels just like real ebony.
The Fishman Sonitone pickup sounds very good for a piezo. It's very rich and full.
My first impression of the sound of this guitar playing it for the first time was that it was just OK. After changing out the Micarta saddle out to bone and putting on my preferred strings, it went from just OK to exceptional. Love the full, rich sound this small body guitar produces. And it rings out on the higher end and sustains just as well as my '04 Martin D-35. Great finger picked but also sounds great strummed with a pick.
If your looking at one of these, buy it now! as the price will surely go up. Just make sure to change out the Micarta saddle to bone before judging it. When you consider all your getting at this price with the pickup and hardshell case included. It's a steal at this price.
My hats off to Brian Kerns @ Sweetwater for the exceptional service I always receive.
