According to its manufacturer, TASCAM, the CD-RW2000 ($1125 list) is the most advanced stand-alone CD recorder available. Building on the success of the companys CD-RW700 and CD-RW5000, the CD-RW2000 comes with a host of professional features you probably wont find on the so-called pro-sumer models, including comprehensive audio I/O, word sync input, call function for checking play cues, digital gain adjustment and digital fade in / fade out. The CD-RW2000 is extremely rugged and built for demanding professional use. A RAM buffer is included to ensure tight ID markers without danger of clipping the start of the track, and the SCMS code can be set via the user menu. Digital gain adjustment allows you to boost level adjustments without going back to the analog source, and the adjustable auto cue function lets you locate right to the start of actual audio, rather than the track ID. The CD-RW2000 features balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog ins and outs, a word clock input feature and AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs. Designed to be completely user-friendly, the CD-RW2000 also includes a control I/O, offering users total control of the unit through such functions as fader starts and stops and event start. As an added convenience, the CD-RW2000 also incorporates unbalanced RCA analog I/O, along with standard S/PDIF digital I/O in both coax and optical formats. Its playback has a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz ± 0.5 dB and total harmonic distortion is <.004% (1kHz, full scale), while its sample rate conversion can handle anything from 32kHz to 48kHz. Onboard there are super clean 24-bit A/D and D/A converters, a built-in timer for preset play and record, digital gain adjustment on the I/Os and digital processing of fade in and fade outs from three to 30 seconds. In addition, a monitor function allows the unit to be used as an A/D converter or a sample rate converter, without the need to place a recordable disc in the tray or enable the unit's record ready mode. The CD-RW2000 records and plays both 74-minute and 80-minute CDs. Finally a wired remote control is included in the package.
