Selecting Audio Outputs in BIAS Peak 5 (Mac OS X)

To Mac OS X set up and running you probably selected your audio ins and outs in the System Preferences (Hardware > Sound).

However, if you’ve just installed a copy of BIAS Peak 5, you’ll also have to tell the software what your audio preferences are. The reason is simple. You might want to use a compact desktop speaker system or headphones for day-to-day audio functions, but switch to your full audiophile rig when editing 24-bit audio in Peak.

Launch Peak, then from the Audio menu, select Sound Out > Core Audio. Here you can select the Clock Source, Sample Rate, Play Through, and Sample Rate Converter Quality settings from the pop-up menus in the Core Audio playback dialog box. Next you’ll click on the Hardware Settings button, which is where you will select exactly what Peak will use to play back your audio, i.e., a specific sound card (such as the M-Audio Audiophile 2496) or USB/FireWire interface (such as a MOTU UltraLite).
