Peavey is no stranger to power amp innovation. After breaking the dollar-per-watt barrier over 30 years ago, they’ve had many more “firsts” such as mass production of a class-D amplifier for live sound and the use of a switch-mode power supply. Their latest achievement comes in the form of refinements to the already-groundbreaking IPR series of power amps.
The Peavey IPR 2 series utilizes an advanced design that increases output power, reliability, and thermal efficiency, while at the same time actually decreasing weight. The IPR2 2000 weighs in at a mere seven pounds! Audio resolution and overall efficiency are increased through the use of a resonant switch-mode power supply and high-speed class-D topology. All of these high-end, professional features come at previously unheard of pennies-per-watt prices.
Of the eight amplifiers in Peavey’s IPR 2 series, four of them are offered with DSP technology: the IPR 2 2000 DSP pictured here, the IPR 2 3000 DSP, the IPR 2 5000 DSP, and the IPR 2 7500 DSP. This built-in digital signal processing allows you to design program-specific EQ presets plus adjust delay, crossover, and stereo/mono settings.
Most amazing of all, the IPR 2 DSP series are the only amps to integrate Waves MaxxBass technology, which boosts perceived low end in a mix by creating precise harmonic overtones. This allows sound engineers the ability to dial in more perceived bass into a system without having to add more power or subwoofers. An LCD screen on the front of the amp provides easy, one-button access to all of these features and the security features let you lock the system settings, which is essential during performances. Peavey’s exclusive DDT speaker-protection system with multi-point clip sampling has DC, Temp, Active, and Signal safeguards, which are also set via the LCD screen.
