- Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul ’58 Plain Top – In 1958, in an effort to jump start the steadily declining sales of the Les Paul model, Gibson decided to abandon the solid gold finish and went to a translucent Cherry Sunburst finish. However, they wisely stuck with the combination of a carved, 2-piece maple top (which sometimes had a little or a lot of what we today call flame or figure, though the majority actually had rather plain tops) matched to a solid mahogany back. Naturally, those early Les Pauls got gobbled up during the vintage guitar boom, so for us, Gibson created the Vintage Original Spec Series, which just happens to include a beautiful reproduction of the ’58 Les Paul Standard “Plain Top.” This one might just have popped out of a time machine set to go back to 1958!
- Gibson Les Paul GT – The Les Paul GT series, with its ghosted flame paint scheme and ’50s Les Paul neck carve will handle the rigors of the road while delivering good looks. Features include an over/under dual truss rod for extra neck reinforcement, push-pull pots on coil-split 490R and 498T humbuckers (delivering exceptional tonal versatility) and independent volume controls. The tone circuit contains a high-pass filter that allows highs to remain as you turn the volume down and smoothes the taper from 0-10. Other features include a Graph-tech nut, locking metal button Grover tuners, and Neutrik jack locks in the cable plug.
- Gibson Les Paul Vixen – Focusing primarily on the female performer, the new Gibson Les Paul Vixen is designed for artists who want a slimmer model guitar at an affordable price that still maintains the classic Les Paul look. It features a lightweight mahogany body, a fast slim-taper ’60s neck with traditional rosewood fingerboard and diamond inlays. What Gibson didn’t “slim down” is the fat sound of the 490R and 498T humbuckers. Comes with a premium gig bag.
