- AKAI MPK49 – AKAI has been rather quiet lately, but here’s the brand new MPK49 performance controller. According to the company, the controller “ushers in a new era for USB/MIDI controllers” by combining a high-quality, 49-key, semi-weighted keyboard (with aftertouch) and 12 MPC-style drum pads. A total of 48 pads are accessible via four pad banks and they feature popular MPC Note Repeat function and Swing parameters. The performance controller has its own arpeggiator for creating quick, creative riffs in seconds. Tap Tempo and time-division buttons allow for real-time control of Note Repeat and Arpeggio clock speeds and the MPK49 delivers an amazing 72 assignable controls, with assignable inputs that include an expression pedal, footswitch, pitch bend, and mod wheel.
- Marshall 2203KK Kerry King Signature JCM800 – This Marshall head is based on Kerry King’s first-call JCM800, which he calls “The Beast.” His JCM800 has been at the core of his sound for years, both live and in the studio – that is until Marshall created Kerry’s ultimate amplifier, the 2203KK. This is a 100-watt behemoth equipped with a trio of ECC83 tubes in the preamp and a quartet of KT88 tubes driving the power stage. King’s amp incorporates his own special touche. Among these are a “frown EQ” mid-boost that counteracts the metal tendency to scoop the mids, a noise gate that accentuates staccato playing style, and a Beast button, which instantly engages King’s signature sound.
