The Fender Stratocaster turning 60 years old is a big deal. Such a big deal in fact, Fender offers many ways to celebrate the Strat’s glorious legacy. Yesterday, inSync’s Guitar of the Day featured Fender Custom Shop’s 60th Anniversary Stratocaster. In this edition, we’ll look at Fender’s 60th Anniversary Classic Player ’50s Stratocaster and the Fender 60th Anniversary Commemorative Stratocaster.
The Classic Player ’50s Strat strikes a balance; classic looks and tone meet modern playability and stability. The lightweight alder body is finished in Desert Sand nitrocellulose lacquer with a gold-anodized aluminum pickguard, the control knobs are aged-white plastic and even the saddles are vintage-style stamped steel; all providing a ’50s vibe. The soft-V-shaped neck, vintage-style 2-point synchronized tremolo and locking tuners with a vintage look give this Strat it’s modern edge. The electronics are even vintage/modern: the three American Vintage Strat single-coil pickups are specially wound to period-correct specs for the Strat tone you know and love; the 5-way switch provides the modern convenience of instant access to the “in-between sounds.”
The Commemorative Stratocaster takes Fender’s 60 years of accumulated Strat experience and puts it into this model. The maple neck has a modern “C” shape and the maple fretboard features 22 medium-jumbo frets. The compound radius provides easy chording on the lower frets and ample room for bends and clean, fast solo runs in the upper register. The neck’s Micro-Tilt adjustment mechanism lets you fine-tune the playability to your personal taste. The 1954 Single-coil Stratocaster pickups with no-load tone control offer the purest Strat tone available. The 2-Color Sunburst ash body is equipped with vintage-style hardware that give modern performance.
Both guitars come with an engraved, 4-bolt 60th Anniversary neckplate and matching headstock medallion. A tweed case with embroidered 60th Anniversary logo and a special commemorative book are also included. Whichever model you choose, celebrate 60 years of Stratocaster history with Fender’s 60th Anniversary Classic Player ’50s and Commemorative Stratocasters.
