The PRS Private Stock guitars were born out of founder Paul Reed Smith’s unending quest to constantly refine the art of guitarmaking. Private Stock is the best of the best that PRS has to offer; hand-selected, premium tonewoods, customized electronics, meticulous appointments, and traditional craftsmanship at every step of the process make these guitars equal parts work of art, family heirloom, and inspirational musician’s tool.
The PRS Private Stock SC245 in Faded McCarty Burst starts with PRS’s familiar Singlecut form and builds upward from there. A beautiful, African ribboned mahogany body is capped with a stunningly figured European maple top. The combination not only looks amazing but provides incredible depth and detail to the tone of this instrument, as do the intricate wood binding and HG Nitro-Faded McCarty Burst finish. The Pattern-shaped, mahogany neck with 24.5″ scale length has the feel of the Ted McCarty golden-era guitars; a generous, fat carve that feels substantial, yet slinky and smooth due to the shorter scale length. The Madagascar rosewood fingerboard has a 10″ radius and the signature bird-in-flight inlays, are both aesthetic and functional. This guitar simply plays like a dream.
The 57/08 humbucking pickups are designed for a sweet, vintage tone. PRS even went so far as to purchase a 1950’s coil wire manufacturing machine that many of the great pickups from that era were made on, giving you a truly classic humbucker sound and feel — fat lows, punchy mids, and smooth, creamy highs in the distinctive vintage humbucker voice of the ’50s.
Each Private Stock guitar is personally signed by Paul Miles of the Private Stock team and Paul Reed Smith himself, putting the final seal of approval on these hand-crafted beauties. If you’re looking for a guitar that is instantly collectible and infinitely playable, the PRS Private Stock SC245 in Faded McCarty Burst was handmade for you.
