Guitar of the Day

Today we have our very first “Two-for-One Special!” Two brand new Ibanez electrics, which include the affordable SA260FM and the upscale S2170FB. Both combine vintage features with modern design to give you an interesting take on classic designs. We’ll start off with what has to be one of the best guitar values available today, the Ibanez SA260FM. The first thing you’ll notice is the flame maple top, which up until recently was unheard of at this price point. In the “old days,” guitars with mahogany bodies and maple tops were not only expensive, but heavy, too. So Ibanez went to work and thinned the body in all the right places, making the SA260FM one of the most comfortable guitars to play, even during long gigs. Add a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, three pickups (a True-Duo humbucker in the bridge position, along with two single coils in the neck and middle positions), a vibrato tailpiece and a unique output jack that’s actually recessed into the top. All at a price that’s shockingly low!

Next, the S2170FB serves up big, heavy tone without the big heavy body. Yes, it has a mahogany body for superior sustain, but the top is actually a beautifully figured piece of bubinga, a wood previously seen most often on bass guitars, but now coming into its own on electrics. Like the SA260FM, this guitar also has a superbly contoured body that you can play all night without fatigue. Borrowing another page from bass guitar design, the Wizard II Prestige neck is constructed of five layers of maple and bubinga, and it’s one of the fastest necks we’ve played in quite some time, topped off by a fully-bound rosewood fingerboard. This guitar comes with a pair of genuine DiMarzio humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions, with a third single-coil DiMarzio in the middle position, so whether you’re pounding out big power chords or soloing up and down the neck, your sound will be thick and punchy. The Zero Resistance vibrato tailpiece is icing on the cake, so you can whammy all night and still stay in tune! Those looking for all these features, but with an eye-popping, burled poplar top will want to check out the S2170FW. Both instruments have a natural flat finish that lets the beauty of the wood really show through!
