Guitar of the Day

Today’s Guitar of the Day comes to us from Parker, which has a reputation for building instruments that are truly unique in the industry. While most manufacturers play it safe and stick to tried-and-true formulas, Ken Parker dances to another drummer, for sure, starting with his mind-bending Fly Series. Ah, but today we’re going to be talking about the Parker PM-20 PRO, which is the upscale version of Parker’s original dual humbucker-equipped PM-20. All it takes is one quick look and you know what Parker is going for here. Let’s see: Two humbuckers, single cutaway, mahogany body and neck with a flame maple top… Got it yet? Of course you do. But let’s not be too hasty in thinking this is a “me too” guitar. While it may share some traits found in other guitar lines, the PM-20 PRO is “all Parker” from top to bottom.

The PRO features some really nice upgrades, starting with two Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups – a JB Humbucker in the bridge position and a Jazz Humbucker in the neck position with coil-tapping for extra tonal versatility. Then there’s that premium flame maple top (on the PM-20 Pro with the Honeyburst finish) and the crowning touch, rippled abalone purfling around the entire body. Wow! That’s a feature you typically see in guitars that cost many times more than the PM-20 PRO. The one-piece premium mahogany neck has a nicely contoured shape; not too fat, not too thin. The ebony fingerboard is a pleasant addition in this price range and this one comes with a distinctive white pearl star inlaid at the 12th fret. If you’ve never owned a guitar with an ebony fingerboard, it’s the perfect blend of maple hardness and rosewood warmth. The 22 frets are nicely finished and allow for easy bends and fluid vibrato. Currently we have just one left in stock with the flame maple Honey Burst finish and two in Pearl White. To protect your investment, Parker includes a well-padded gig bag at no extra charge. In most cases, it’s all you’ll ever need (until your upcoming world tour kicks off). Naturally, when you buy from Sweetwater, your new PM-20 PRO ships right to your door absolutely free!
