When the Gibson Custom Shop decided to build a total of just 100 Les Paul Tree of Life Limited Edition guitars, it became almost a given that down the road, this will be one of the most collectible guitars made in the early part of the 21st century. Yet despite how few are being built, as a Gibson preferred retailer, we originally managed to snag two of them, both with absolutely killer AAAAA-grade figured maple tops, the best Gibson offers on any guitar! When those sold out in record time, we asked Gibson for more. The company responded by sending us two more of these beauties. We suggest you stop reading now and go take a look at these stunning instruments in our Guitar Gallery, but be prepared to have your jaw drop when you see the carved maple top and the spectacular tree of life, constructed of pearl and abalone and carefully hand-inlaid into the ebony fingerboard. Originally, there was only going to be one of these built and given as a gift, but Gibson made the right choice by asking their Custom Shop to craft 99 more of these magnificent, museum-quality instruments.
While the AAAAA-grade carved maple top and the breathtaking tree of life vine inlay are definitely the eye candy, this Les Paul also delivers in the sonics department, too, and in a big way thanks to a pair of ’57 Classic humbucking pickups (which are amazingly accurate recreations of the coveted PAF pickups from the late 1950s) and the tried-and-true 3-way toggle switch, plus two volume and two tone controls. The 1-piece mahogany neck has a comfortable C-shape profile – not too fat and not too thin – and a fully bound ebony fingerboard. Even the headstock has some of the vine inlay work and is fully bound, as well. Gold hardware and Schaller green key tuners round out the feature set and, as you’d expect, this baby comes with a Custom Shop hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity. It also ships right to your door absolutely free via FedEx. Don’t hesitate, because once these are gone, there won’t be any more, so call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer right now!
