According to an article in Financial Times, 2012 saw global music sales rise for the first time since 1999. The increase is credited to increased revenue from digital downloads and subscription services. Physical media sales continue to shrink, but were more offset by outlets such as iTunes.
Revenues rose by 0.3 percent to $16.5 billion. Though the increase is called “fragile,” experts are seeing this as a positive recovery from diminished CD sales and piracy.
