Wow — what an incredible weekend! It was yet another record-setting GearFest, with more attendees, more manufacturers, more workshops, more gear, more of everything! We’re so honored and humbled that gear lovers came to Fort Wayne from as far away as England, South Africa, Australia, and elsewhere in the world — and of course from all over the United States — to spend Friday and Saturday learning about and experiencing gear, and celebrating music! Our thanks to everyone how traveled so far to be here, and to everyone who helped make GearFest 2013 such an amazing success.
Among the highlights at this year’s show: an impromptu jam featuring drummer Terry Bozzio, bassist Billy Sheehan, and guitarist Gary Hoey; the amazing performance by rising star Joe Robinson and his band; the show-closing Fountains of Wayne set featuring Cheap Trick’s Bun E. Carlos on drums, and much more. The educational workshops were packed; highlights included engineer/producers Frank Filipetti, Jack Douglas, Fab Dupont, and John Paterno; live sound master Rick Camp; Bill Kelliher’s discussion of Mastodon’s music and his guitar playing; Mitch Gallagher’s popular Guitar Tone workshop, the Music Business workshop conducted by Mark Hornsby and John Bradley, and Craig Anderton’s fascinating workshop on high-tech guitar.
There was something for everyone at GearFest ’13, no matter what instrument you play, what style of music you like, or what level you are at.
Now, as the tents are coming down and the clean up concludes, we begin planning for GearFest 2014! We hope we’ll see you there.
