Q: I have some USB 1.1 devices that I’d like to keep using even through my new computer has USB 3.0. Are they compatible?
A: Yes, USB 3.0 was designed to be backward compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices. As long as the connectors fit together, they will probably work. One caveat: in some cases, the device with the slowest data transfer rate will set the rate for all the devices on a particular USB bus. If your computer offers more than one USB bus, then it may make sense to plug all your pre-USB 3 devices into a separate bus from your USB 3 devices.
