BOSS Unveils New Products

At the annual Musikmesse trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, BOSS made big waves with their announcement of several major new products. The excitement started with the GP-10 Guitar Processor. The GP-10 features COSM modeling of effects and amps, but it goes way beyond being just a multi-effects processor and amp emulator (though you can certainly use it that way!) — for example, it can emulate a wide range of instruments including acoustic guitar, bass, sitar, and many more. Another big extra with the GP-10 is that it has a 13-pin GK input in addition to a regular 1/4″ input. This means that it can drive synthesizers and create amazing guitar effects, as well (such as instant alternate tunings at the press of a button). There are killer onboard synth sounds that you can blend in with the COSM guitar tones or play on their own. The GP-10 can also send MIDI out and communicate over USB for driving hardware and software synthesizers — the USB connection also turns the GP-10 into a multichannel audio interface for your DAW. Put bluntly, this thing is crazy powerful!

GT001-xlargeIn the spotlight right alongside the GP-10 is the new GT-001, a desktop processor loaded with all the modeling power of the top-of-the-line BOSS GT-100 — we’re talking premium amps and effects. But the GT-001 kicks it up with an XLR connection for a vocal microphone, along with vocal effects, and a USB connection, allowing the unit to serve as a multichannel audio interface for your DAW. All of this capability is wrapped up in a stylish package that will look great in your studio, conveniently placed right next to your laptop or computer keyboard.

GT100Speaking of the GT-100, BOSS announced Version 2 GT-100 software for their flagship guitar processor, which adds new COSM amp models and the latest effects, enhanced audio and MIDI interfacing, and — check this out: the ability to convert a monophonic guitar performance into a MIDI signal for driving synthesizers, no special pickup required. Too cool!

VE2-xlargeBOSS also unveiled a new gem for vocalists, the VE-2 Vocal  Harmonist. This stompbox-format unit generates realistic vocal harmonies and studio-quality vocal effects. It can even detect chords coming in from a guitar and generate matching harmonies! Just a few knobs and buttons  make the VE-2 easy to operate, yet all the control you need is right there in front of you.

Roland Cube Street EXThe CUBE Street EX brings amazing BOSS technology to musicians on the move. This self-contained sound system features up to 50 watts of crystal-clear stereo output for on-the-go performances, and it cranks out that power while running on eight AA batteries! (How is that possible?) You get dual woofers and tweeters; four input channels for mics, guitars, keyboards, and music players; COSM modeled tones for electric guitars; an acoustic guitar preamp; and much more. The CUBE Street EX is shaped so that it can angle back for stage monitor use, or it can pole-mount on a speaker stand. You can even connect it to your iOS device for easy recording!
