In 1976, newly appointed Music Man president, Leo Fender, teamed up with then beta tester, Sterling Ball to design what would become Music Man’s signature instrument: the StingRay Bass. 38 years later, the StingRay has become the instrument of choice for bassists in all styles of popular music, due to its huge tone, innovative design, excellent playability, and superior build quality. Many StringRay models with various options have been offered over the years, but the 4-string, Music Man StingRay 4 H is much like the original that made such an impact on the world of bass.
The select ash body and beefy maple neck are joined by an ultra-stable, six-bolt neckplate. This StingRay hallmark creates not only better string energy transfer for more sustain and fundamental tone, but also creates more consistent tuning and feel. At 1.625″ wide, the nut gives your fretting hand ample room and the 11″ radius maple fingerboard offers excellent string-to-string separation. The back of the StingRay’s neck is finished with gun stock oil and a hand-rubbed, special wax blend for effortless glide. This bass plays great and really sings.
To electrify this great tone, the StingRay 4 H has the classic, soapbar-style humbucker with alnico magnets, over-sized pole pieces and wide coil windings that give the Sting Ray its sonic signature. This single, rear-mounted pickup has phenomenal low-end punch and high-end snap, which is further tweakable via the onboard, 3-band EQ.
A chrome-plated, hardened steel bridge plate with stainless steel saddles gives an extra level of intonation and stability. The familiar, three-on-one-side headstock scheme houses Schaller BM tuners with tapered string posts and ensures straight, even string pull across the entire instrument. Available in a variety of finishes, the Music Man StingRay 4 H adds a classic, unmistakable voice to any bass collection.
